Just out of interest, I'm not S African but I've noticed through the years watching your rugby, there are a lot of Coloureds representing South African domestic and International rugby. In fact I've noticed there are lot more Coloured boys and than blacks playing rugby. They seem small but make awesome backs like someone mentioned here. Is rugby really popular amongst the Coloured population in South Africa and have they always liked rugby or is it only recently they have adopted rugby? Because I remember the likes of Chester Williams, wasn't he coloured?

@@Rebelass74 yeah, for the most part our Coloured and Xhosa populations have been playing rugby for like 100 years, with a lot supporting the all blacks in the apartheid years. It's been a gradual integration process, with the school rugby in the early 2000s already pretty mixed, but only since Rassie came in 2018 has it felt like a real South African team... Bantus, Coloureds, Afrikaners all together winning!!

@@henk_iii Interesting. I wasn’t aware of the Xhosa population. I thought all blacks folks in South Africa preferred football over Rugby. However, I was aware of them supporting the All Blacks over South Africa in apartheid era. I am just so glad a lot of blacks folks are taking up rugby now. Would you say there are more coloureds who are currently playing top flight rugby than blacks in South Africa?

@Tianton1 well firstly these two schools are not in the top 10 and secondly they did not field their 2023 grade 12s because they have technically left school after their Grade 12 exams in November. The Paul Roos U17 team beat the Munster U19 team. They are a top 5 school and beating an Irish Province two years older than you is no mean feat. Especially at that age.

The comments on SA race is unreal, I don't think any other country obsesses with race as much as SA do. It's one of the reasons why I left, who care about race, it's about skill, talent and opportunities for these kids to be their best. But unfortunately while SA holds on to the divisions of the past generations things will not change much. Look to the national squad on how things should be, no races, just sporting brothers and shared comradery. SA society (esp gov) could learn A LOT from the springbok squad about being South African and true leadership. It's lovely to see the toff schools, esp Eton (Hogwarts for wankers) get their butts kicked, so very well done EG Jensen.

In terms of pure quality and tradition, this school is not even in the top ten in South Africa. This is why SA have won FOUR out of EIGHT Rugby World Cups! New Zealand only have two and Australia only one! Before all of you down under object to these statistics, let me explain, the Rugby World Cup tournaments of 1987 and 1991 DO NOT COUNT, and that’s because South Africa were NOT participating! If they were, it would probably have been SIX out of TEN WINS! And don’t forget, The Springboks use ONLY genuine South African players, we don’t STEAL talent from other nations!

The EG Jansen team consists of u16 and u17 boys. Most will be final year students next year and play first team next year. You have to look at their last age group rankings, which will be u16. Next year's final year students, ranked 6th in SA at u16 level in 2022 and this years u16, which will also be considered for this team, finished 43rd in the SA schools' u16 rankings. I guess there are not going to be many of this, years u16 boys in this group? .

This is suppose to be the first xv from the schools. However the South African school year finishes in the beginning of December. The SA schools therefore doesn't send their first teams, they send what they think will be their first team the following year. They are a year younger and most have had no first team experience. This competition will be much better if held in March or October. Then everybody can send their first teams. Unfortunately New Zealand are not interested to play in March because they say their players might get injured and could mis the start of their rugby season. Funny how the SA school teams never use such BS excuses as their rugby season start at the same time as the New Zealand schoolboy rugby season.

@@wlk2408 i just don't know what the point is in paying all that money to basically go with what would be you 3rd of 4th best team in the school. They can then just arrange a tournament like this in South Africa and play each other. Would be much cheaper and the quality will be higher.

In 2018 Paarl Boys toured New Zealand and ran those Kiwi's of their feet. The u16 team scored 321 points and conceded only 7 points in four games. The fuest teams scored 215 and conceded only 58 points. The first team did lose their final game by two points but playing four games in twelve days you are bound to struggle at the end. Still four teams toured and between them they only lost one game. Most games was comfortable wins. The irony is EG Jansen is not known as a ball in hand running rugby school. In SA you will think of Grey Bloem, Paul Roos, Paarl Gim or any Cape based school. Once the kids leave school the provincial unions " clubs" find a way to coach that natural ball in hand attacking play out of them. Then it becomes all about winning the World Cup no matter how.

PRG just finished a tour of Ireland. They won all their games, and last night, they beat Munster u/19 19-31. The Paul Roos team was u/16 and 17 boys. You should also consider the travel cost, it is much more expensive for SA schools to tour. Some of our school kids are kids like Kolisi who don't even have money to feed their families properly. If our teams do travel, they tend to do very well. Paarl Boys High toured New Zealand in 2018 and only lost one game. Most of their games they won by massive margins. Paul Roos won the Sanix final against a New Zealand school in 2017. Grey Bloem did world schools last year and narrowly lost to the number one New Zealand school in the final. Grey Bloem played with a u16 and 17 team. The world schools are after our schools close for the year. The teams our schools send are next years first team players, and they are still u16 and 17. They play against boys who are at least a year older than them.
