For a semi auto not bad John. Hopefully you have a little time to try it out and tell us what you think.

Although many of your fans would love to see you hunched over your rifle giving it a blow with a straw, you may have saved some lives by refusing to do it. Some may have heart problems and when they bust a gut laughing so hard it might have done them in. Your sensitivity to losing your man card with the Marine and NRA endorsements is understandable. It wouldn't surprise me none but what the Navy Seals, or the Green Berets would swoop in and take you out for that kind of behavior. There is however and alternative to blowing through a straw. That is take a patch and put a very small dab of crisco or TC Bore Butter evenly throughout it and run it once through the bore. Once again a very small amount. This leaves light lubrication to mitigate cold bore flyers and if you are storing the rifle removes the grit which is proven to cause rust pits over long periods even with non corrosive ammo. If you try this and it works out you might be honored by the NCO and Officers clubs on military bases worldwide by them naming alcoholic beverages and sandwiches after you!!@@Dayattherange

@@Strutingeagle Man I almost busted a gut losing this you just about did ME in lol. Your method is very interesting to me. Does it have to be either of those ingredients would regular old CLP work?
@Strutingeagle6 ай бұрын
I don't know about CLP but do not use any petroleum based oils. I tried Kroil and it is a big failure too. What happens if you use some oils is that the bore gets crusty and you will lose accuracy because of it. You can feel it with a cleaning rod and patch. Not so with lipid and wax based lubes. Use very very little so the first shot is the only one that gets effected by the non evaporative lubrication. If you know you will be 20 minutes or more before shooting another group, run a lubed patch and will stay put. Also make sure you do not leave a clump of lube up in your bore either by having a very small amount worked thoroughly into the patch. It is safe for you and the gun.@@Dayattherange

FYI ....... St.Patrick used a shamrock ☘ not a clover, 3 leaves not 4, to explain the holy trinity, but at least you didn't say St.pattys day...... here in Ireland we say St. Paddy's day. Nice bit of shooting with that ruger 1022, in Ireland the humble. 22lr is by far the most popular and common rifle caliber. 👍

I've competed in many 22lr matches years ago. Which included pistol and rifle matches. One thing many of us shooters learned was 22lr ammo is very finicky in cold temperatures. The cold can make your 22lr ammo shoot inconsistently. Instead of leaving your ammo boxes and magazines out on the cold bench, keep them on the inside of your coat preferably next to your body to keep them warm.
@Dayattherange6 ай бұрын
In agreement I usually keep them in the warm car, keeping them on the bench is mainly display purposes for the channel. I use to get a lot of questions about what ammo I was using even though I would say it at the beginning of the video.

@Dayattherange6 ай бұрын
Love to see you try this with your 597 they are usually pretty accurate from the factory. Volquartsen use to make barrels for them that you may be able to find on the used market. Jarvis a good barrel though many say change out the hammer for a VQ hammer for more consistent ignition is needed more than anything. Good luck.
@chrislang56596 ай бұрын
@Dayattherange I've already installed a Mcarbo hammer spring, knocked about 1- 1 1/2 lbs off! I'll be ordering the Volquartsen hammer next payday. I'm now a full believer that a lighter trigger = better accuracy. The spring alone shaved about 1/2" off my groups. Work in progress. It's almost ready for some of your challenges. We're at a pretty consistent 1" at 50 yards, the goal is 1/2" at 50 with CCI Standard Velocity. It seems to like it the best, and I have a couple bricks of it!
