I've got the same set up except for the pouch which is ingenious for keeping the items in the rear from rattling around so I think I might use something similar great vid!

I really like the Backpacker stock on the Ruger take down. I find the basic takedown rifle rather pointless, it is too heavy to qualify as a backpack gun. The backpacker stock is lighter and helps keep the system compact and self contained. The best change I made was the purchase of a Volquartsen barrel, Carbon fiber sleeve over a lightweight barrel. It took a lot of weight off the system and the accuracy is superior. A BX trigger and a compact Red dot improve the system, the threaded barrel and my Silencer Co. Sparrow go together well.
@johnturman17762 жыл бұрын
That's awesome. Thank you. I may put a Volquartsen barrel on it at some point.
@miguellucero Жыл бұрын
Right now my Takedown seems to be set up like yours except for the Volquartsen Barrel. You recommend the Barrel and BX trigger is potentially all you need? I was also thinking of receiver and trigger pack but then you’re getting into “just buy a new gun” territory.
@jmack232 жыл бұрын
Great job giving insight to your 10 22. I wasn't sure which sights go put on mine but you raised a good point about red dot possibly dying. But I don't want a huge scoop either. Nice set up though.

Primary arms has a micro prism that would be perfect. It has a etched reticle. It will function a lot like a red dot. However you can still run it without power. Here is a link. www.opticsplanet.com/primary-arms-slx-1x-micro-prism-scope.html

.22 LR in general is notorious for issues as it is unless you're running a bolt gun. I have seen guys spend a stupid amount of money on .22 builds that just sit in a safe 🤷♂️ I like shooting my guns. If I don't dump a ton of cash in one I have no issues going out and shooting tells the sun goes down with it.

Mounting scope on reciever portion of takedown rifle no bueno for holding zero. Magpull makes a mount for barrel portion for this reason. Usually people mount red dot due to the forward mounting location though.

I keep a lense cleaner in my small extra butt stock container on the stock. I have a double soloman sling I created with various splits in it to allow for vertical tie downs of a knife, compass, 25 capacity mags, etc. I have auto-opening scope covers. I have a Yankee Hill silencer, so I dont made any sound. And, then, lastly, my mounts are American Defense QD so I can break it all down into a small enough package to easily fit in my backpack. My scope is a leopold, but only 30mm 1.4x4, but I have the same mounts on my .22M so I can swap the scopes between .22LR and .22M, although the ballistics are different, but that’s ok if you know them. Great guns. HOw much ammo do you have for yours, the .22LR?

Takedown doesn’t hold zero after being taken down , scope is about worthless unless mounted to the barrel section
@johnturman17762 жыл бұрын
I have not experienced that. That's why they put a way to tighten the play from the barrel. As long as that stays consistent you will not have a issue. It's definitely not going to shoot sub-MOA the goal is to hit small game at practical distances.

Should never have any semi-auto 22LR for a survival rifle. But rather a stainless steel bolt-action (or lever-action) 22LR is the best. We are not fighting a war but instead just for killing small game to eat for food.
@johnturman1776 Жыл бұрын
Roy Johnson, thank you for your comment. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a semi-auto 10/22 for a survival gun. Best Survival Rifle? Ruger 10/22 Rimfire - Ron Spomer Outdoors Here is some interesting information on this topic. I don't think a bolt action or even a lever action is a good choice for “survival” .22. Don't get me wrong, both are really good firearms. I grew up hunting with both. If you are in a survival situation there is a high likelihood of having an injury. In the chance that an arm is injured this will make it very difficult to run the action on those firearms. I have found having the ability to make fast follow-up shots on small games is a very important feature to have in a survival rifle. As far as “fighting a war.” I would not fight any war with the .22lr at all. It is just not suitable for that. The 10/22 has never been used as a fighting rifle. Yes, some military has used them for special occasions like aircraft survival and some other things. They have never been used as a direct fighting weapon. John Turman.
