Ruger 22/45 Lite update and fix (Stove Pipes)

Bought a Ruger 22/45 lite in July, but had tons of issues with stove pipes. Removal of the LCI (loaded chamber indicator) metal blade fixed the issues. Still having a few failures to feed, but that is maybe 1 out of 40 rounds. More to come, thanks for watching.

I BOUGHT A MK III 22/45 FRAME & USE MY MK II UPPER ON IT. I REMOVED THE MAGAZINE DISCONNECT & INSTALLED A SLINGSHOT FOR THE BOLT. NEVER HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM LOADING OR EJECTING AFTER 10 YEARS NOW. TAKE DOWN & REASSEMBLY FOR CLEANING IS MUCH EASIER WITHOUT HAVING TO KEEP INSERTING & REMOVING THE MAGAZINE.

Good video, thanks. I just bought a Lite in black and tried everything to get the LCI pin out. Finally I Dremeled it out after breaking off the plastic part that sticks out. Major improvement!

You may know this already, but Volquartsen makes an extended magazine release that is cut to hold the magazine a tad higher in the frame. It has eliminated the failure to feed completely. About $23 if I recall.

Good to know. I just ordered one the other day along with a tandemkross firing pin and extractor, going to tune my mags also, hoping to get it running flawlessly

I replaced my extractor as well I haven't tested it yet I run the slide back and forth with a few live rounds out it's a lot better than what it was I don't like doing that I took the indicator metal piece out I think I'm getting some progress

Had problems with failure to feed with my Mark iii 22/45, switched to solid bull nose instead of hollow point ammunition and now it works every time.

I had no luck trying to get the LCI out myself. I had to take it to a gunsmith. I tried magnets, heating it up and banging it with a mallet.. No luck...

Slightly round off the sharp corners of the front of the rear feed lips on your mags and smooth and remove any burrs. It does not take a lot, just barely round them. That will fix any of your FTF, stove piping issues.

just want to say the mags work great but you have to push a little forward to seat them a little different from my older 22/45 but otherwise feeds excellent

You do not need to heat the barrel to get the LCI pin out. It is not Loctited in the hole. Just use a strong magnet to draw out the pin.

Mine needed a bit of heat to get the pin out. It was no problem. This is an older video, and I did the slight bend to the sight pin, which did help it from walking out. Gun runs great now, thanks for the comment.

The sight pin fix is to just remove the pin and bend the pin slightly; then reinstall. That will hold the pin in the sight. Just a slight bend... not drastic...

Just got the Ruger Mark iv tactical last week....first time out all kinds of problems with first rounds in factory magazines. Maybe removing this indicator would work on my gun too? This appears to be a Mark iii gun, will this same thing work for the Mark iv?

If I had those problems I would send it back to Ruger and they'll fix it for free or replace it heck they will even pay for the shipping

I would not recommend heating the metal, this will distort the metal. Use a permanent magnet to remove the pin. There are videos on this.

Just bought this same gun and neither mag will lock up loaded or unloaded, Ruger is sending new mags, see what happens next

1/40 FTF is totally unacceptable. Something wrong with that gun.

Tom Donhavjuan I should do an update. This thing is rock solid now. No more issues. The removal of the loaded chamber indicator was the fix, but after about 2000 rounds it has been flawless. Very happy with it.

Worst gun i've ever owned. I even put the Tandemkross kit in mine and it still had FTF, SP and FTE issues. Total waist of $. Ruger should be embarrassed.

88Petry yeah, I was not happy with mine until I tired this mod. Now I'm loving it. This thing runs flawlessly and eats all sorts of ammo. You're not the only one I've heard with those feelings though. Give it a shot.

Natezoinks I did. Wish it worked for me like it has for many others. Unfortunately it hasn't though.
