NOTE: FIX TO POOR FIT IN MAGPUL STOCK. After seeing this video, I bought a Ruger American Ranch 300 Blackout and the Magpul stock for the Ruger American. When I checked out the rifle with the factory stock the bolt cycled fine with or without a magazine. All good. Worked as expected. When I changed to the Magpul stock. The gun would barely allow any magazine to be inserted with the bolt closed. I could not use the magazine release with a magazine inserted. To be clear, I had to open the bolt before I could release the magazine. When I tried to close the bolt on an inserted magazine, the bolt head was hitting the back of the follower so hard that it would barely close. Also, with the magazine inserted, the bolt was dragging super hard. Maybe 5 or 10 ft lbs. Maybe more. It was nearly impossible to cycle ammo. I rewatched your video and noticed you had issues that mimicked the issues I was having with magazines insertion. I also noticed that you too had a less than smooth cyclic action when chambering and ejecting. At least yours was cycling. I nearly had to use a dead blow hammer to eject. Not kidding. MY SOLUTION: I added a spacer washer between the bottom metal (plastic) to both screws that attached the bottom metal to the receiver. I didn't measure yet, but probably about 25 thousandths. I then torqued the bottom metal screws, and it all works just exactly how it should. It seems the bottom metal (bottom plastic) is not a perfect fit and needed extra spacing between it and the receiver. The bottom metal sticks out a little more, but it's not really noticeable. Most importantly, it now feeds and ejects with ease. Not sure if this helps anyone, but if you're having similar experience this may be a solution. I'll also send this info to Magpul. Maybe they have an answer as to why I had to add spacers to my rifle before the magazine would fit properly.

Same issue. The stock cycled flawlessly with my gen 1 in .308 with AICS mags. When I changed the “bottom metal” to the AR style and put the gen 2 .300 blackout in the chassis. It was an absolute no go. I’ll try the washers to see if that helps. Thanks

I also adjusted the follower in my magazine it’s more friendly to a three lug bolt. Much smoother… My accuracy results while shooting suppressed have been horrible to poor. Extreme spread, standard deviation and group size has basically sucked for my 300 blackout sonic experience. Note: I’ve tried two different 300 blackout rifles, including this Ruger. I’ve tested four different suppressors. Everything is aligned. There are no baffle strikes. I just cannot find an accurate load. Getting close though… I can make one bug-hole with 5 shots at 50 yards unsuppressed. I have tried three or four different brands of ammo and I’ve tried 20 different hand loads. Today I’m getting close to a load that looks like it’s going to work. Lapua makes a 308 bullet that specifically is made to shoot subsonic through a suppressor. I think it’s an old design but my testing today showed it to be the most accurate of everything I’ve shot so far. If I cannot get MOA or lower groups with the 300 blackout, I’m going to switch back to 308 and shoot subsonic. My previous 308 shot the 200 grain Lapua subsonic bullet lights out with Tin Star and Trail Boss powders and that was a 1:10 twist 20” barrel.

Great video! I just purchased one of these Ruger American Ranch Gen 2 and could not be happier with the price and performance. I was actually shopping for the Mossberg Patrol in 300 blackout when I noticed this rifle in the rack next to the Mossberg and after the side by side comparison the choice was clear, in favor of the Ruger. The Ruger was only $30 more than the Mossberg and the quality and feel of the rifle is very impressive at the $549 price point. Mine is a tack driver at 100 yards too with subs.

Very good video! Really appreciate that you don't waste time with fluff but include what's important to know about how the gun functions. FYI, I bought a CZ 600 Trail in 300 BLK and hoped for results like you are showing here. I personally can't get mine to shoot well at all. It's short, small and handy, but I don't think CZ had "tack driver" in mind when they designed that gun. Anyway, super informative video. I just ordered the Ruger.

The main difference between 5.56/.223 Rem PMags and 300 blackout PMags is the internal mag geometry thickness towards the front of the magazine. For larger/heavier bullets, the bullet diameter may be a lot wider towards the front and will wedge itself against the body. It is a known issue so that is why Magpul makes a dedicated 300 blackout PMag.

Do you by chance know the OD of the barrel inside the flutes around the 12” mark? Looking very seriously at getting one of these but want to cut it down to reduce velocity and hopefully avoid any factory subs going supersonic. I’m concerned about not having enough meat left on the barrel to get a 5/8 thread after cutting into the flutes. After building a 450 for subs only to be let down by all the factory rounds, and trail boss being essentially non-existent, I need something that will shoot factory subs accurately and want to explore 300BLK for more factory sub options. Great shooting by the way!

The follower on a .300 blk magazine shouldn't be any different, in fact I can't even really think of why they would sell one specific. .300 blk is just a .223/5.56 case cut down and necked.. That being said, that one mag was rough... definitely something hanging up. This rifle has been on my short list for too long. Done a couple .300 blk builds in the AR platform just to get my feet wet and so far, the reality cut through all of the hype. .300 blk is awesome. I loaded up a few hundred rounds sub sonic and went to the range with my daughter.. That was FUN.
@HALO-2304
@HALO-2304 7 ай бұрын
The only difference I would think is maybe some internal geometry of the mag body. If the 5.56 body tapers towards the front, the larger projectiles of the .300blk may be cramped and drag inside the body so they opened it up some, but the outside looks identical. Maybe? Just speculating.
@PaulM-d7k
@PaulM-d7k 7 ай бұрын
@@HALO-2304 Theoretically the exact same mag because they have to fit the same Mag well. The subs that I loaded were 220gr and were VERY close to the front of the mag, I had to take special care to keep them tapped to the back but in the several hundred that I ran, I had ZERO feed issues.. I have yet to go as far as doing a throat depth test but it's always an option to seat the bullet a few thousandths deeper. You do have to know what it will do to the performance of the round tho.. Reloading is a rabbit hole.

That's why 16 inch AR's exist boys and girls.. All in for 350 bucks . Shoot 1/4 moa with a m4 contour barrel and barrels are threaded lol .. stop trying to make a bolt do what was designed to be a gas gun. Good content and I mean this respectful... You just proved to people what not to do.. 16 inch Bear Creek gun can do better for this for like 300 bucks... I build my own from scratch that way I can choose my own handguards etc..

@@Freedom-us3zr I recommend whatever you like, there’s just a certain vibe you get from people who love Q, like people who love to smell their own farts.

@@wiggie200486 Q is definitely more about hype in everything they do, but they do have a phenomenal suppressor mount. I have tried several different suppressor mounting options and I will only use Q until I find something better. The cans are crazy light weight and work great. I get what you’re saying, but don’t knock it till you try it. And my farts smell amazing! 😂
