Trigger is good but could be a shorter reset. She carried a Shield for a few years and liked the trigger better. Hundreds of rounds through the Max9(115 brass and aluminum & brass 124 + some 124+p HST) not a hitch. My wife may trade her Shield 45 for a Max9 some day.

The max 9 has been in my carry rotation for about a year now. It’s my work carry and I’m a jman electrician. The finish from holster wear, sweat etc. is my main gripe. Had the trigger upgraded, after 1300 rounds the only “malfunction” has been the slide not locking back after the last shot.

I haven't tried the Max 9 yet but i've been carrying the GX4 for over a year now, and Taurus let me fix the drop-safe recall myself for a SDI class project. My GX4 has over 1000 rounds through it without a single issue, except once when I did a mud test (not on video) so that doesn't count. I don't mind the shitty finish because it's just a self-defense gun, not for showing off. PSA: If you unholster and reholster it a lot, the areas where the finish rubs off will start to rust. I fix that by rubbing a thin layer of synthetic motor oil on the slide each time I clean it.

Your description of the GX4 handle is making me want one even more. The G3c didn't fit my hand well until I bought a Hogue grip, so that's a plus to me. @@Ffs00911 What I want next now is the Kimber R7 Mako. It's thinner than the GX4 and has the handle hump I need to fit my hand. It's smaller than the G3c, yet has a longer barrel length and more capacity for the size. It's really not that much more money since it's optics cut and has better parts, making the Mako better in every way, except you lose the restrike feature for easy dry fire, but that's a fair trade off for a smaller gun that shoots with less snap.

I put tritium sights on my GX4 and they're spot-on accurate. Since I don't have a sight pusher, I gently tapped it using a hammer and a small block of wood/2x4, and wrapped the slide with a shop rag. I also fixed the drop-safe issue by gluing (blue loctite) the firing pin block spring in place because it could come unseated and flip sideways...too much wiggle room. I've also dropped mine accidentally twice BEFORE the recall with no issue, and did several vigorous drop tests from every angle after fixing the recall. I literally trust my GX4 more than my Colt NM 1911.

Early in 2023, I was on a search for a new carry pistol. Three important criteria for me were concealability, capacity & economy (didn't have a big budget to work with). I narrowed it down to the Max9 and the GX4. I owned Rugers and hadn't own a Taurus at that point. So I wanted to like the Ruger. And when it came to the sights, the Ruger Max9 was the clear winner. As far as concealability was concerned, it was a draw. But... ...the Max9 rattle was something I just couldn't dismiss, no matter how hard I tried. So the Taurus got the edge on the Ruger in the fit & feel category. Though the capacity comparison was close, here too the Taurus won the category. And the GX4 was the more economical option. In March of 2023, it sold for $325, if I recall correctly, and there was even a $50 mail-in rebate on it. Taurus was the clear winner, and the choice I made. It runs, and isn't too snappy, certainly manageable. It makes for a great pocket pistol; it rides in a DeSantis Gunhide Nemesis holster, #N38BJE1Z0 (covers the trigger guard, the draw is quick and smooth, and the holster stays put). It has been my EDC for 15 months. I enjoyed your video review. I would have enjoyed it even more if you had made this video a year earlier. 😏

If I buy a Ruger or a GX4, I think I would automatically consider a bottle of Cerakote to be part of the expected cost. Bought some LCP parts for a friend recently that looked perfect (brand new) in the bag and although they weren't oily, I assumed that they were oiled and would be fine for at-least a week until I shipped them out and my friend received them... but I had them for 6 days and the entire surface of the slide was covered in rust by that time. Apparently the seller cleaned the parts and didn't oil them or something like that, because they rusted in the bag without it ever being unsealed. (...and I was certain that a slide could not rust sealed in a bag like that, because there's not enough oxygen to sustain continual corrosion like that). I know the GX4 won't rust like a Ruger at all, but that finish is so soft and gets damaged so easily that I just wouldn't trust it to protect the firearm (especially long term)... and I'm one of those people that loves original finishes and tried to never damage an original finish on a firearm unless it's really damaged/worn. These are probably the main guns I would strip a brand new, perfect, untouched finish off them and have them Cerakoted or refinished.

Have seen some Coyote and Tungsten one's for sale that I think were OEM, but I'm not sure. Now they have the Graphene coating and that could end up being one of the most durable coatings ever. I hope Cerakote starts working with graphene and Borophene too. They're two of the most durable materials ever and are far grater in strength compared to diamonds and just about any other material, natural or manmade.

Nothing wrong with having two of the same gun get 500 rounds through the carry and only test it occasionally and practice the hell out of the other. It means you have spare parts too. One may show itself to be marginally better than the other, the one you shoot the piss out of may develop a notably better trigger, smoother mag release etc. Then you can make a decision.
