You made the Mini-14 into an actual "Mini-14" aka the M14/M1A's little brother. Why didn't Ruger make it like this from the factory?

@@ffarmchicken The Mini 14 was obviously derived from the M14 & the thinking was to submit a 5.56mm rifle to troops used to the M1 Garand/M14 manual of arms but in the smaller caliber. It took some work to get the gas system to work right which is why the design was dropped from Army consideration.

I love the Min-14's. I had to qualify with them every year when I was working for WI Dept. Of Corrections, and I even used one in the 2001 Milwaukee A.S.P- advanced SWAT tactics training seminar. The range was a treat every year, and since I was a squad leader in our ERU (special teams), i was accustomed to additional range time. The rifle isn't light, but the weight isn't discernible when you're firing it, and may even account for some decrease in muzzle rise. It was easy for us to train "pre-service employees" in it's use because it looked familiar to a majority of them, or they had seen them used before. If I was in a situation where I would need a rifle to survive, I'd hope for a mini-14 to be available.

Good video!! Unfortunately, here in Washington State, this model of the Ruger Mini-14 is ONE of the very few “semi-modern” semi-automatic rifles/carbines we can now purchase. The Ruger 9mm PC standard carbine is another of the few semi-automatic long arms we can now purchase. The good thing about the Ruger PC carbine is that it has the replaceable Glock magazines well, so you can use your grandfathered 11+ Glock magazines you may already own.

Always nice to new people get involved in semi rifle shooting. I do suggest that Ruger designed the Mini 14 from the US RIFLE M14 that was in a larger caliber. That rifle was derived from the M1. I had all four riflers in this action M1A1 Springfield , M-1 carbine, M-1Grand and Ruger Mini-14 back in the 90s. Both has its down fall for a left handed shooter wearing a baseball cap. I had hot brass ejection up hitting the brim of my cap and down in my face. I switched to the AR-15 and AKM platform and never look back. To keep the Mini -14 more reliable used white grease on the action , polish the barrel chamber and factory or good quality mags. A big dot front sight is cheaper than a red dot sight and work better. This will help engaging targets .If you are short like me.Shorting the butt shock will help in handling the rifle faster.

@Aventura.out.3 күн бұрын
I've only shot 12" plates up to 100 yards, about 2" groupings so I cannot confirm if the strut helped with accuracy, however, I did notice that the strut helps mitigate heat away from the barrel. I like using the 5rd flush mags when shooting on a bench or prone.
