I just ran across the video. I used to do these quite a bit some years ago. Only one word of caution, be very cognizant all of the accuracy, especially a double-action both before and after you do this work. I found it when I put the everspring from my kit, this was some years ago when it was a slightly different design as a security six however that part of the mechanism has not changed. I found that in double-action my groups actually got about twice as large, that was an effect of the firing pin not hitting the primers hard enough to make them ignite consistently. I ended up going back to the original Hammer, still had a dead smooth trigger, a little bit more weight, but I had actually done the work down to a 20 oz single action pull and about a six and a quarter pound electrical. But I also learned that as you're squeezing the trigger and double-action the tip of your finger will contact frame just before the fire alarm goes off. After that you can take close aim, and then squeeze off the round as if it's single-action. I was able to shoot my security 6 into a 4-inch group at a hundred yards. It was a superbly accurate Ruger. And that was on Double Action. I don't think I ever shot that firearm more than four five times and single action after I did that trigger job. As for what he's calling Birds, I don't know if he's ever seen what an actual Burr is, but I am far more burrs on Smith & Wesson is than I ever did on ruger's

Best gunsmithing video on KZbin. I followed along and the improvement to my SP101 is remarkable. I did manage to launch my pawl spring and plunger despite the multiple warnings but managed to find it. I was worried about primer ignition with such a light pull, no problems at all testing a hundred rounds of multiple different loads. It did make the trigger reset less forceful. Thank you for making this kit and video.

This is an EXCELLENT how-to video and I can't thank you enough for this invaluable resource. You made it fun and have a perfect presentation style. My first time doing anything like this without screwing it up royally and having to have a gunsmith bail me out. Using the MCarbo spring and trigger job kit and this video, my GP100 stainless 6" 6-shooter went from stock gritty 10lb DA, 3.5 lb SA using my analog Timney trigger gauge to 8lb DA, 2.7lb SA. But those numbers don't even begin to do the results justice. It is an understatement to say the action is buttery smooth. O. M. G.! Thank you so much for what you guys do and for serving our country and keeping me free.

UPDATE: I followed your video and was able to do the job myself in just under 4 hours. My Gp100 was different than the one in this video because some of the details were different in the firearms, but I found a couple other videos online to help with disassembly and reassembly, but with 0 prior experience I was able to get it done! The trigger feels much smoother and overall the gun feels nicer. I’m very impressed. I used 2 shims for each of their respective pins. Didn’t have a feeler gauge I just played with it a little. Ditch the dremel tool and try some jewlers tools - Gesswein for example. Jewelers need/use felt bobs regularly, have various polishing compounds and their equiment has better speed control - which is nice if you need minor material removal using a burr [a dremel usually creates surface speeds that are too high]. You won't go back.

Most likely the best DIY video I've ever seen. I did have a suggestion/comment about my GP100 that differed from the vid: First, there was no corresponding hole in the back strap so was unable to use a punch to depress the trigger latch pin for removal. I improvised, using a random pegboard hook with a suitable 90 degree end. Second, the hole for that plunger/spring assembly was considerably smaller than 1/4" so I used a #7 drill bit (.201") for burr removal. Then it required a #16 drill bit (.177") with one of your handy, 1.000-grit sandpaper squares wrapped around it to polish the hole. No tape was required as I pinched the sandpaper around the bit with my fingers and rotated it until the bore was smooth. Can't wait to install the trigger/spring kit in my new Ruger LCP Max!
@davidmoran7827 Жыл бұрын
I've done 2 of these now and I love it. The double action trigger pull goes from heavy and gritty to light and smooth. You get the durability of the Ruger with a "Smith & Wesson" like trigger pull. I didn't even need to use the trigger shims on this last one because the fit was great but I used all the hammer shims. The trickiest part for me is getting the trigger assembly installed back into the body. Always lots of cussing and annoyance on my side even though you made it look easy in the video. The root cause (for anyone else stuck) for me was that in the handle, where that trigger spring assembly goes in was rough and it didn't want to seat all the way. Some people "clean that hole out a little" and others recommending tapping gently with a rubber mallet. The gentle tapping worked for me and finally got the trigger assy seated properly. If it doesn't seat all the way, your trigger won't pull all the way back.

Honed it with 1000 grit paper and lapped the tunnel with Flitz polish and used a little gun grease. Replaced factory springs with a 10lb trigger spring and 12lb hammer spring. Purchased a new SP101 a few weeks ago. 10lb trigger is effecting my normal accuracy. Installed the trigger kit straight away, polished the key points and found several metal flakes, burrs, and high spots in key areas effecting trigger operation. I've performed multiple upgrades to my firearms over the years and this was by far the roughest factory job I've come across. Used all the shims and could have used two more on the trigger to really tighten it up. I'll go to the range this week to test live fire results, but there is already a tremendous difference in the dry fire trigger pull. I'll post the results of the test. Update: went to the range and put 50 rounds down range. Trigger proved to be very smooth, easier to stay on target as my model is a 5706 double action only, 2.25" barrel . Put 90% of the rounds in the 9 and 10 rings. At the same time I lapped the end of the barrel as the barrel bevel was pretty rough. I saw other posts where burrs left from the factory effected accuracy as well. So new grip, trigger job with some polishing and debuting, and lapping the end of the barrel have resulted in an acceptable firearm. I think I'll put a better front sight to increase visibility on dark targets and I'll be done. But the money spent on the trigger job was well worth the investment and is super easy to perform. BTW all tests were done with factory ammo and I did not experience any misfires as others have eluded to.

I'm tempted to order one of these kits, and I don't even own a revolver. I may need help. This was an excellent video, the way all these should be. There were a few moments when you were off camera with what you were trying to show us, but we still saw everything enough to understand what you were doing.

Thanks! This was a great how-to video. I bought the kit and polished along with my GP100. It feels like a new gun! I don't know if its because mine is an older GP100, I brought it in 1992 and an SP101. But there are several differences in the trigger guard, trigger, and hammer. All in all a fairly easy mod for a huge improvement!

This the most detailed educational videos on the gp 100 and sp101 currently on KZbin. Great job! Wish this would have been around may years ago.

I just ordered the kit and accessories for my SP101 357. I hope it works the same with the hidden hammer version.

Thank you this video an awesome job! I'll be ordering a spring kit and shims once I shoot my GP100 for bit. The directions and how to polish the parts took me from "can't measure on the scale" to a very smooth 7.5# pull. With another 500 to 1k rounds, a second polish job and shims, this drop the pull even more. Thank you.

Don't own a revolver. Would like to, but had to leave a comment. This was a great informative piece & a lot of fun to watch. Hopefully, a GP 100 is in my future.

Great kit and video; my GP100 operates more smoothly than ever now. One note: BE SURE you keep the detent/spring parts for the hammer dog and pawl apart and identified. I installed each in the wrong hole and no matter what, the trigger would not work. Once I reversed them, all was good.

Wow, what a detailed video. Most videos treat the viewer like they already know how to do ( fill in the blank). I get tire of a video tell you do " that" and pointing a fat finger at three things, which i wonder which one and which that.

I just installed the kit in my GP100. Great video to help me through the process. The only problem I had was getting the hammer to drop in and engage the sears properly. I know I put it in and out at least 50 times, wiggling it and pushing. Finally, for some reason that I never did figure out, it dropped into place. The action feels MUCH better than before. Double action dropped to about 8 lbs or so, but I used an inexpensive Wheeler spring style trigger pull gauge.

As per your other videos, this is top notch. I’d recommend that if you own a gun you’ve done a video on, watch it. If you are planning on buying a gun and you’ve done a video on, watch it. You may learn things you should know before you buy. Great stuff.

Excellent video. I've used these kits for pistols, but not (yet) for my revolvers. Great help!

Looks like you could have doubled up on the one side of the hammer with the shims.

This is a great video! Very informative. I know the inside of a Smith revolver or a 1911 very well, but you showed me new things about my SP101. Ordering the kit because I want to see more of this kind of video.

Just completed the job on my new GP 100 357 and totally satisfied with the results. Followed your excellent video and did the polishing along with the springs & shims. Had a decent trigger out of the box at 8lbs 9 oz for DA and 2lbs 14 oz SA. Now have a very smooth DA 6lbs 13 oz and 2lb 3 oz SA. Haven't range tested it yet, but assuming she fires I'm a very satisfied customer. Thanks.

Best how-to I've seen...and I've seen a LOT. Excellent, just ordered your spring kit and polishing stuff for my SP101 327 Fed Mag. Can't wait to do the trigger and internal polishing. Thanks much for sharing your knowledge. Ron J.

@@MCARBO Just did the spring replacement and trigger/internals polishing on my 2010 SP101 327 Fed. Mag. It was surprisingly easy after watching your video completely, then following along again as I did the work. I didn't use gloves which made it easier for me. The result was just as yours...amazing. You (M*Carbo) have put together a great kit for this firearm...keep up the great work and maybe do the same for the S&W J Frame revolver (I have 3)...I'm a customer for EVER!

One thing I see could work on the pivot pin is using a flat shoe lace with flitz which would conform. better. Just pull it back and forth around the pin
