Antonio Jiménez Manjón (Villacarrillo, Spain 1866 - Buenos Aires, Argentina 1919)
This piece was originally composed for the 11 string guitar (7+4 floating) or (8+3 floating).
Manjón's guitar tuning is, from the 7 string is re-entrant, meaning :
7B, 8G, 9D, 10F-11C
Although a bit odd, this tuning has a rationale, with dominant-tonic relations in adjacent pairs (8th-9th, 10th-11th). On the other side, allows some passages in higher positions, while playing a bass note (like F or G) without difficult (or impossible) stretches.
This recording was made with a German 9 string period guitar, with regular diatonic tuning.
Rui Namora, 9 string guitar
