I like the visual and mechanical style of this. I'm also glad it exists. The LoL Netflix show is good, I'd like to play this as well. But I also have zero interest in MOBAs/competitive gaming. I'm glad they're making these side projects. 25-40 hours is great, IMO. I'm tired of 60+ hour games, tbh. It's too much. Thanks for the balanced review, as usual!
@thecognitiverambler89112 жыл бұрын
Agree! I hear "a game's too short" - and hear that as a positive, not a negative, honestly. Virtually any game that runs over 60 hours (and man, do so many these days) does so by padding the crap out of its content. I'd rather have 20 - 30 of "the good stuff" without the filler and chaff, thanks.
@matthuck3782 жыл бұрын
@@thecognitiverambler8911 I think part of the problem is that a lot people convert hours into dollars when thinking about buying a game. "$60 AAA game? It better have 60+ hours of playtime in it!" I personally don't pay more than $20-30 for any one game, so I consider overall enjoyment and want a polished, finished product most of all. It's why I tend to prefer "indie" games, and wait over a year for an AAA game. I'm also glad that demos are getting more common on Steam, as I want to feel the controls (especially in a combat-heavy game) before I buy it. eg: Tales of Arise looks great, but after playing the demo, I decided I didn't like the combat at all. Too hectic for me and the party banter was annoying.
@thecognitiverambler89112 жыл бұрын
@@matthuck378 I'm fairly financially comfortable so I have to observe my privilege there. I definitely understand the heuristic of converting "hours played to dollars spent" but it misses so much qualitatively in my opinion. I can watch a 3 hour movie that I kind of like, or the Shawshank Redemption (one of my all-time favorites) and realize the quality of my enjoyment and the value I got from them is NOT the same. I know I can't speak for everyone, but I prefer quality experiences over hours of grinding, filler content, oversized dungeons, and just general padding and will happily pay a premium for that experience. I'd *rather* spend $60 on a 30-hour blast, than $60 on an 80-hour slog. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I also have a sense that many people don't even observe this heuristic in themselves. I think this is one of the reasons Chrono Trigger is (rightly) still hailed one of the best JRPGS ever made. It has a lot going for it, but its snappiness and refusal to overstay its welcome is I think a big part of it. I could be wrong, but I think a lot of people don't realize that they'd rather a shorter, fully engaging experience (at least sometimes!) than a long exhausting one. I also think this is where genres come into play. MMORGPS will take hundreds of hours of your time, and that's fine by design. Or like co-op survival games too. Sandbox games, etc. But to me, single-player RPGs I prefer brevity, largely.

Riot kinda doesn't make spinoffs like many other companies do. I mean if anything can be said about them as a positive it is that when they jump to a new medium they put effort into it. Be that the ruined king or Arcane. Everyone expects teh usual attempt to flay another skin from the franchise but actually beyond the setting very few things bind these games and media to League of Legends. Just as Arcane didnt turn out to be a "there is my champion showing off his skills" showcase, this game was pretty independent too. And I absolutely believe this is the right thing to do.

I played it on the Nintendo switch. I didn’t have issues where I couldn’t complete a certain section of the game due to a bug or glitch. However, i will say the game crashed many many times. I spent a good 80 hours on the game completing every side quest, bounty, and getting every black market item. And the game probably crashed every few hours. So I got into the habit of saving every time i entered a room and defeated an enemy. Most of the crashes was during a fight the enemy didnt spawn in correctly making him invisible. Or the screen would just go random colors. On a particular boss fight that was difficult (lvl 29 that can one shot your character) it crashed twice after beating the boss. And i wasn’t happy. Overall though it was a beautiful game and i loved interacting with the characters. And making unique builds. I do however wish they improved a bit on the enchanting system and cooking. There was more potential there.

I was on the fence with this title, because I have never played LoL as MOBAs are not my cup of tea, but turn-based RPGs most definitely are. After your review I will get sooner or later (knowing my habits later ^_^) Regarding playtime, I think our perception is bit warped as we played many long games - all Infinity Engines ones, Torments, KotORs etc, so 25hrs to beat/40hrs to 100% might seems short for us, but I would say it's rather solid time. I have number of games in my library which I have beaten, some 100%, in half that time. Also, time stamps are good! I know you can incorporate them into video itself - like dividing video into chapters, maybe something to think about in the future?

I liked the game a lot, but I really wish they used more dungeon hazards or had more regular enemies incorporate the lane system against you. It was cool how all the bosses had some neat gimmick with it, but the generic dungeon encounters really started being a drag towards the end of the game with how the same strategy was working on every single enemy. It was also way too easy to overlevel the characters and their equipment just by doing sidequests. The level 3 ultimates were pretty sick but I can count on one hand the number of times an enemy encounter lasted long enough for me to use it
@jarlsigurdstorvann98852 жыл бұрын
My review of this game so far after 89% done. I got 2 reasons for playing this game. League of legends, and the love for turn based battle systems. The world is beautiful. I love how you can get lots of different equipment and enchant it with different types of stats or damage enhancements. Whatever skill you choose to to use in order to inflict damage, heal, buff or whatever, you can level up these skills to get extra effects. And you can pick and change skills and spells you wanna upgrade free of change if you dont like your set up. So you dont have to make a new game if you regret how you set up your characters like you will have to do in many games. You also get 2 different classes that each and evry character gets access to. And these classes enhances the way you like to play with your team. As for braum for example, his 2 classes makes him scale better as a tank, or you can have him inflict more damage. Pyke for example can crit more often and gets increased crit damage. Or he can put dots on his enemies and do damage over time this way. So there are alot to experiment with and try out in whatever way you would like to play the game. And just with the skills, you can also pick and change the classes you would want to have your character be strong in. So you dont have to stick to one thing through all game. You can also have your character put points in both classes. The downside i got with this game, is that the fights felt like exhausting work and in the end i was just looking forward to be done, then i actually enjoyed playing the game for what it was. So why do i continue to finish it? Because i did not want to feel like i payed money for something i never got around to finish. Despite my negative critique, the game as a whole has it sense of charm that manage to entertain me. I just wish battles was more of a satisfying experience to go through, like something in final fantasy. Thats my opinion anyway. Maybe people out there loved this game hell of alot more then me. And i wouldn blame them. The game is good. It is worth its money. But if you are a hardcore lover for turn based battle games? You may end up getting more disapointed with this game. So my score is 6/10

@@adeternitamn2859 I haven't had to grind that much. When I do, I put every character on AI. Act 3 is focused on extra challenges for hardcore turn-based JRPG fans, like you don't get any achievements for having Draconian Quest turned on and the game assumes you're going to grind to beat the final boss. The Act 3 story is more about giving super-fans the happiest possible ending for each character and the story details don't necessarily make sense (for example, Michelle is alive even though she shouldn't be because she dies before the end of Act 1).

To me a JRPG is a RPG game from a Japanese developer. This is a turn based RPG to me. What makes it a "J" RPG?

40h seems resonable for a spin off. It doesn't seem to overstay it's welcome.

were you ruined after playing this game?

Seems like a cool game. I love Airship syndicate but have no interest in this game as someone who knows nothing about league of legends. I do love Darksiders Genesis and Battlechasers Nightwar. You should check out Battlechasers because this was a copy paste really.

There's a few chests that I just can't get.

$30 for 30 hrs seems about right imo. $1/hr is a great playtime

Personally I just couldnt bring myself to finish it, I am at 80% and every time I boot it up I play one battle, look at the quest list and after navigating the trash map I just give up and quit

Battle chasers was great too

Isn't there another league of legends spin off game in addition to this one? I swear I saw two of them on the steam store...

Yeah the other one is like a platformer

I played ruined king on switch and had so many bugs and crashes during my 50 hour playthrough it was like 5 crashes every 6 hour session and texture bugs and quest breaking bugs. i did have a long amount of league history playing but ive been gone from that game for 3 years now and im just frustrated that riot keeps retconning their story and world so much and i felt like without knowing the world or characters a little bit it wouldnt feel as easy to enjoy, and anyone outside of named lore characters feel like fan fiction characters.

With the switch experience i wouldve rated this 3/10, without maybe around 5 or 6, but thats only because i felt the game pushing itself to the limits on switch and once you see everything with the paint melting off and the polish isnt there 100% on that experience it dulled it a lot for me.
