My PC locked up and crashed on multiple occasions while working on it, Premiere tried to kill the entire project file, and I realized a good portion of the capture audio was ruined days before the upload date. Have fun with this information! Okay, time for corrections! First of all, I made a vague comment about this in the video, but I should've been more clear on it. I purposely ignored any and all secrets or references to Project Libitina, because, again, there's not really much else to say that everyone else hasn't already said. If you see or know of an obvious secret that I'm not talking about for some reason, that might be why. Also, as Dan Salvato himself pointed out, (Check out his comment below for some really cool insight on the game!) the girl who wins the poem game is automatically set to "love" the poem, and it doesn't seem possible for two of them to hit the point threshold for love at the same time. In other words, only the "hate" point threshold applies. Again, please let me know how you feel about this video! This is one of the more unorthodox videos on the channel, so I'd like to know if I should never do it again, or if the format is something that should potentially be revisited at some point. Real bugs are much more boring than DDLC's fake bugs tbh, a real bug would just cause something to not render or cause the game to not progress at certain points, or would just outright crash the game (Actual Ren'Py crashes stick out like a sore thumb and you can easily differentiate them from fake crashes, especially if you're a programmer)

There's a funny story here actually. The original version of the game had a bug where one of the lines from Monika's Talk would crash the game and restarting the game would just result in a crash. The only way to move forward would be to delete Monika. Dan actually got people saying how they like the mechanic, how it drives home how futile Monika's quest is. Of course, it was a bug, not a feature.

Un-fun fact: If you pay close attention to Sayori when she was hanged (which is actually really hard to do since the image moves and most of us were quite shocked) you can see that her fingertips are bloody. On third act, Monika explains why. Apparently when Sayori hanged herself she did it on the wrong way, you are supposed to make yourself fall with enough force to break your neck and die quickly, but since she's clumsy she ended suffocating herself to death. During that time she regretted her decision and tried to free herself and that's how she ended up hurting her hands. Just in case Sayori's death wasn't sad and tragic enough.

That red screen effect actually seems to have a darker implication. See, when you hang someone, generally speaking, you want it to be high enough that it snaps their neck instantly. We know that Sayori wasn't high enough. That red screen slowly fading out as the sounds muffle and creepy sounds can be heard in the background? That's likely the last thing Sayori saw before her death...

And it makes sense after Monika decided its easier to remove than fix But we all know at the end, despite her being aware everyone is acting according to script and cannot really act of free will, she still kept their file elsewhere and never deleted it But as Monika also mentioned, when game is closed, she in a dark space with nth but void around completely alone. And when she is deleted, she is there in complete pain and agony, likely cuz it's like data of her is being ripped apart or in our case, molecule or pieces of our flesh being torn apart So Sayori over there is trying to get to her childhood friend, not player, but realised something more that the world isn't right. But she has no power, or the heightened awareness, she just feels like the world isn't really real. Same sense how ppl at point of time feel like the world they live in isn't real but they cannot come to final conclusion, to become fully aware. So the whole time, she was in full pain aside from herself feeling the strangling pain and her instinctive struggle because she failed to snap herself instantly. She reached out the childhood friend and her data that isn't supposed to be in the script anymore since Monika amended it. It caused a bug and the player starts seeing what Sayori sees, feel and hear.

Disabling the part where the username is shown to people while recording is actually really thoughtful of them. They probably wanted to keep in that creepy effect while not risking leaking personal info of streamers. Some other apps like Discord do something similar to help keep streamers safe.

There's actually a scare I know of that was removed; after you've entered Sayori's room to find her hanging, attempting to quit the game would have had the text box reading "Are you sure you would like to quit the game?" with the quoted text being warped and distorted and the "Yes" and "No" options being replaced with images of Sayori's face from the title screen. If I had to guess why this was changed it was probably because Dan felt it was going a step _too_ far, and didn't want to continue to torment a player in the process of closing the game because they were actually in distress.

If you get the good ending, Sayori thanks you, says she hopes you enjoyed playing the game, says that they all love you, and you read a note that Dan Salvato wrote (after Monika sings that little song). The good ending is easy to get but if you don't know how to get it here are the instructions: Play through the first act on the Sayori route (pick her topics for poems, like depression, promise, friends, etc) and choose to work with crafts or baking, it doesn't matter which one. I'd suggest saving at the start of the first poem so that you can reload it every time. Make sure to confess your love to Sayori. The morning that you're supposed to see Sayori, quit without saving so she doesn't die. Reload the poem save and this time, pick words Natsuki would like (pink, cute, doki-doki, etc) choose her for baking, confess love to Sayori, quit game the next morning without saving it Reload poem save again and this time pick Yuri's route (horror, anxiety, etc) pick crafts and confess love to Sayori but this time don't quit the game, just play as usual until act 3/void scene with Monika. Delete Monika then wait for her to allow you back to the literature club with the other girls and that's how you get the good ending.

I wish there was a version of this where If you’ve played the game before and start it up for a second run, for some reason none of the plot events trigger and you seem to just be stuck in a loop of random conversations and poem games, but if you keep playing for like, an absurdly long time the characters start to notice something’s wrong and nosedive into a panic trying to get out of the time loop, inadvertently causing even worse horror elements in their attempts to reset the plot. Like idk one of the other girls murders someone to try and kickstart act 2 but it just branches it into a new plotline or something. If I knew how computers worked it’d be over for y’all, seriously

There’s actually a feature in Act 1 when you play the poem game, if you search up a characters poem words and click on their wiki, then use the words that pop up in your poem. Then show it to Monika, she’ll actually ask you if you cheated. The DDLC Purity mod is like that. It's set after the True Ending. Monika is restored, she mocks your efforts to make them happy, and you can play through the game four times in succession, choosing Sayori, Natsuki, and Yuri as your love interest, and with good and bad endings for each of them. Once you've done that you get the chance to make Monika happy. It's just a mod, but it's all aboard the feels train.

She does write it in a manner suggesting she doesn’t care as much as she should, but it becomes clear she DID still want to avoid this outcome at first. It’s only after Sayori’s death that she rationalized that no one else was “real”, so it didn’t really matter if they got hurt

There is also a ,,rewarding" stuff, and kinda different ending. If you manage to backup ur saves before big stuff happening, restoring them back to the game at the very last moment, and having all routes (dialogue options) in one run, in the end, Sayori wont try to be self aware, but instead, she will thank you for checking on everyone, and she will ask you to visit her from time to time. In the ending, Monika does not delete the game, and at the end of the credits, theres Dan Salvatos letter where he speaks a little about himself and the creation of DDLC. Never managed to get this ending myself, but the feels after getting it is real

You don't have to do stuff "at the very last moment". Save before the first poem game, go for one girl's route until the day of the festival. Before going to Sayori's home, load the save and go for the second girl until the festival. Reload again and go for the last girl, then you play as usual.

Ok, no. All those guidelines are from confusing to wrong. The "good ending" is really a beta. Sayori is speaking as if the 4th wall was never constructed here. She just thanks you for your time. And all you get is a personal review from Salvato. To trigger the ending following must be done: (1) The game has to be completed at least once. Game will "remember" it in appdata. (2) Every scenery BG has to be seen in one completion. They all will be displayed in end credits, black-white noised, if not seen. By "see", it really just means to trigger it's display. A save file does not remember any BGs, once you see them, it has been "saw" for the current playthrough. That is why players imply on reloading for going all routes possible. It is however an overdo, since each of the girls besides monika has more opportunities to like your poem, than the actual number of her personal BG. So try combos.

Can we just all appreciate how fantastic Sayori's death was from a writing standpoint and as a scare? Not only is it built up perfectly, but I like how after the shock or resignation of the sight of her dead clears for the player, it just becomes sad. Of course, I'd rather Sayori LIVED, but at least we got probably the best scene in the game.

Regarding 24:00, from what I've heard: detection of streaming software like OBS would make the game skip Monika saying the name of the player in an attempt to prevent accidentally doxxing streamers. IIRC, this was a modification added to the game after initial release.

Very close. I also unrpyc.py'd the game shortly after release, and there were only references to OBS and xsplit at that time - but both the environment user name gag and the "hi everyonne" jump scare gag were guarded by that check. The expanded list of streaming software must have been a recent addition.
