Rule Britannia - British Patriotic Song

"Rule Britannia!" is a British patriotic song, originating from the 1740 poem "Rule, Britannia" by James Thomson and set to music by Thomas Arne in the same year. It is strongly associated with the Royal Navy, but is also used by the British Army.

Did you know that the Royal Navy destroyed the slave trade in the free world? That's where the term comes from. Briton's soil is soaked with blood of Roman slaves.. white slaves for over 800 yrs. It became the Charter of the Land. Slavery was not tolerated in the Empire, one could lose their freedom due crime but always given the choice to die free or serve your sentence in chains.

@NamVetBuck I will concede that the USMC are a force to be reckoned with ... but I think you'll find... that in recent war games held in the USA the exercise was cut short and the USMC were handed their arses by the Royal Marine Commandos

@@NamVetBuckahh yes the ship designed to run away from Britain’s warships and pick on frigates, famous for defeating captured french frigates. You know there were 6 of the constitution class, USS Chesapeake and USS president are a little less famous, one was turned to splinters in the Gulf of Mexico the other captured and turned into a building in Hampshire England.

It's time like this where the likes of Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory and the National Anthem should be played. Is it me or is the uk the only country where playing the Anthem or flying the national flag is considered racist. Statements are racist if they are degrading to the party being spoken to, this is unacceptable. Where as the likes of Rule Britannia or God Save The King are promoting your homeland without degrading other nationalities in the country.

It’s not about imperialism or empire, the biggest misconception about this song. In the 1750s when it was written britain was under constant threat of invasion by Europeans, mostly France, it means that although France was the pre eminent military power in Europe at the time Britannia ruled the waves, meaning it was impossible to invade because of British naval strength. It’s not about colonialism or empire it’s a very misjudged song, Australia does want to hold the games as far as im aware it’s because of incompetence of its organisers.
