A is 15 and B is 18. So, if you apply the actual formula it will be, AuB = 15 + 18 - both => AuB = 33 - both. Here, 15-x is not A. 15-x is the number of students who only play cricket. Similarly, 18-x is number of students who only play badminton and x is number of students who play both. Hence, sir added them. If you go from the traditional method like the one I mentioned in the start, you will have to apply the traditional formula, ie. AuB = a+b-both. Either way, it's correct.
