THE RULE OF LAW
INTRODUCTION:
• The rule of law is the legal principle, which means that no man is above
the law and that every person, whatever his rank or conditions, is subject
to the jurisdiction of ordinary courts. The phrase can be traced back to
16th century Britain. The rule of law was further promoted in the 19th
century by British jurist A. V. Dicey.
• The rights of individuals are determined by legal rules and not the
arbitrary behaviour of authorities.
• There can be no punishment unless a court decides there has been a
breach of law.
• Everyone, regardless of your position in society, is subject to the law.
