I just had an in real life Bismark moment. Built a FANCY new warship, was planning on making it the pride of my nation, first voyage into battle it was catastrophically hit and sunk, I love this game! Lol!

You wait until the pride of your fleet is sunk between battles by a mine or submarine because you neglected to build enough humble corvettes. It's happened to me!

Hi Dickie. Just discovered your channel as a result of becoming intrigued by the RtW 3 game (having somehow missed the previous iterations). Superb tutorial series and the "Chase of the Marco Polo" has left me as shattered as the stokers involved :-) Great tension and the game will be a sure fire buy for me on the 18th. Best of luck with your treatment (I spookily had a much delayed HOLEP operation of a much enlarged benign prostate last week) Ian

Thank you, Ian. I'm recovering well. 'Ahead of the curve' my consultant said 😁 Hope you're enjoying a similar post op experience. Yes, it was a tight battle and the Italians were close to getting away. You can't ask for more from a computer game.

Indeed Dickie. The guys and girls at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle were phenomenal and it seems a complete success. Our NHS gets battered about in the media a lot but my experience has been nothing but positive. Hope you have been equally lucky. I am very tempted to give the poor Austro Hungarians a run with a fast cruiser raiding strategy early on and hope I can make that practical as the bigger guns are so appalling in 1890. You have given me a lot to think about :-)

Thanks for the videos so far. I've bought the game, but prefer to follow your guide before diving in.

Thank you Charles. I strongly recommend you jump in to the 1890 game start and pick a middling country like France or Russia and learn by making a few mistakes! These 7 mini tutorials should give all the basics you need. If you want to know more, I have a playlist of more advanced topics. kzbin.info/aero/PLezw_SV-XtA2p-3dawymSOeu9JVk_L9ll (These were created for Rule the Waves 2, but they are more than 95% accurate for Rule the Waves 3, which is an expansion rather than replacement for the older game.) I'll be starting a whole new series very soon. I'm just doing the preparation.

Thanks for the videos, Dickie, and really looking forward to your longer playthrough and the release of the game. I'm pretty disappointed that they haven't included some sort of command for the AI to be careful with detached wounded ships and limit speeds so they don't flood to death. It feels like it would be so easy to put a "stay at 5 knots" command, and those losses are so frustrating!
@RvTWargames Жыл бұрын
I agree. A 'crippled' speed would be a much more sensible way of handling detached ships m

Excellent tutorial. Any idea when can we expect the next lets play or are you going to continue with the French campaign till release? I love your style of analysis. Give us such a great way of understanding what happened and why.

It will probably be at the end of the month for the next RtW playthrough. I've got a board gaming weekend this weekend and a couple of weddings to attend.

I'm currently 20 episodes into a playthrough of Germany, starting in 1935 - so how to build up a modern fleet from next to nothing to be able in a few years to take on the naval superpowers, incorporating the change from gun to air supremacy and the introduction of missiles.

It's been a while since I played RtW2* so I'm glad you did this it was a nice refresher course. *I stopped playing in anticipation for the originally planned DLC. Didn't want to start a new campaign with only a few months left until new content that would require a fresh campaign start. That of course turned into a very long wait.

Liked it a lot. Good tactics/strategy. Wish enemy speed more accurate. Would allow u to reduce speed u ships as overtake, reduce dmg u ships.
@RvTWargames Жыл бұрын
Think of the speed as: Very slow 5kn Slow 10kn Crusing 15kn Modeate 20kn Fast 25kn Very fast 30kn Super fast 35kn You can't know the enemy's exact speed, that would be too much intelligence. Frustrating, but then the uncertainty of battle is.

Thanks for the series of videos. Very informative. I wonder if the report of heavy damage changing to light damage has anything to do with jammed guns or temporarily disabled guns/engine or whatever and then it was fixed. Similar to what happened to your damaged ship when it went from 27% to 2%.
@RvTWargames Жыл бұрын
You're very welcome, Mantose. And good point. Also flooding or fires brought under control, or rudder critical hits might do is too.

Thanks once again for this excellent video. I'm not a English native speaker, I'm Portuguese. Probably you know the game/simulator Command Modern Operations [CMO] (the previous version was the CMANO). One thing that I think RoW3 could have done better is to improve the design of the graphics of battles. Here, regarding graphics I'm not talking of those fancy 3D graphics, but a simples 2D stylized graphics as CMO uses. I was following your battle and was visually with difficulties to see important info. For instance, the speed and other variables could be with small letters below the Ship. The vector of the ship direction could be a simples vector line on each boat. Tracing a new course could be followed by a direct box with the speed and time of arrival at such course. In CMO changing course is also setting a arriving point. Also in CMO in battle you can trace several courses and points. You have the circumferences with the maximal distance of fire, but in CMO for each type of weapon you can see directly the arc of fire. This is, imagine a turret that can turn and fire 210º you can have quick access to your ship vector and the angle that any weapon can fire. What I'm trying to say is that in my opinion RoW3 could have improve with very very simple grafics more infographics provide more information to the player, important information without having the player to make so much clicks and give in my opinion more battle awareness. Other thing for me that I don't know and I like in CMO is that "Game Messages" or "Log" where you see the info on hits and stuff, who is very important in this simulations, could like in CMO have a separated window where you can at all times place it in the main screen in real time the battle messages without having to go to a separate tab where you have to choose between OB, reports, Objectives, etc. Also the different commands to the ships could have a separated window. I'm enthusiastic with RoW3, but I consider that the UI is what needed a more profound reform, and that was not really made and is not a very difficult thing to do compare it with the powerful engine that is RoW3. My 2 cents.
@RvTWargames Жыл бұрын
I don't disagree. Sadly it's not where the skills / interest lay. My hope is that RtW3 becomes a much greater success than the cult successes of RtW1 and RtW2 have been, now it is on Steam and backed by Matrix / Siltherine games. And that will allow them to take on a second developer with much better user interface skills.
@rbarrososj Жыл бұрын
@@RvTWargames I'm hoping that too. I saw from your movies how powerful is the engine of RoW. And at the end of the day what really matters is the engine of the simulation and that is very very good. I will buy RoW3 when it releases. RoW have very good concepts and captures a type of wargaming that unfortunately is not so common.

I find it rather odd that the ship giving chase received a rudder hit. Doesn't the game take ship aspect into account?
@RvTWargames Жыл бұрын
The ship's aspect is one of the many factors the game takes into account when calculating a hit. Lucky shots are rare, but possible.

Repair times are a bit too short for my tastes
@RvTWargames11 ай бұрын
Agreed. Though often longer repairs were because they took the opportunity to combine repair with refit, as you can do.

I wish there was an order to make your ships auto stop shooting at obvious sinking og crippled ships...
@RvTWargames11 ай бұрын
You can always take manual control of your fire. But I wish there was a timer on that so that I wouldn't forget it was still on manual control.
