What if your ball lands on a painted red line? Is it considered to be inside or outside of the penalty area? Thank you.

ANY contact with a RED or YELLOW Line means the Ball IS In the PA. Usually this will allow you to Play It As It Lies rather than having to "Pay a Stroke" for Relief.

Move the ball to the side, away from penalty area
@apaulmcdonough2170Ай бұрын
Option 2 is "Back On the Line" Relief. The Line starts at the Hole in the Green - goes Straight Back through where the Ball last crossed the Boundary Line of the Penalty Area (either RED or Yellow) and then continues on a Straight Line as far back as you wish. Once there - you Drop your Ball ON THE LINE and the Ball must stay inside a 1 Club Length Radius FULL Circle to be a "Goid Drop". Bouncing Forward is allowed now because "NO Closer to the Hole" is irrelevant here due to the already increased Distance to the Hole you added with this Relief Option. RED Penalty Areas offer the Lateral Relief Option (NOT allowed for YELLOW PA) because often "Back On the Line Relief" isn't feasible for a RED (Lateral) PA.

What about 2 club lengths anywhere along the staked penalty area no closer to the hole?
@mattmalloff73777 ай бұрын
For a red staked area, yes.
@apaulmcdonough2170Ай бұрын
Your Two Club Lengths start from the RED Line WHERE the Ball Rolled or Flew over the RED Line. You don't get to pick "anyplace you like" on the Line, and the Ball cannot be Dropped or Come to Rest closer to the Hole than "the Proper Point on the RED Line" is. There is NO "Lateral Relief" allowed for YELLOW PA.

@seeingbeyond666 There is NO distinction between Fairway and Rough when it comes to taking either Free Relief or Penalty Relief. Both are part of the General Area. Height of the Grass is immaterial to the appropriate Relief Area allowed.
