A good point there Hannah about the playable area on the tee. As far as teeing up is concerned I always try to make sure that the ground is level and I have the best line available. However, I think many club golfers are unaware of the importance of choosing the position you tee off wisely since this is the only place on the golf course where you actually do get a choice. There is a hole on a usual course where, for a left to righter, the best position is on the extreme right of the tee. However, the tee slopes down at that point so the ball is just below your feet by about an inch and I have thinned a few tee shots so that is the obvious reason for it and illustrates why you have to be very careful about any slight slopes or having a clear swing. Many thanks for the advice about dropping the ball I didn't know that the rules have changed and was still dropping from shoulder height but not in competition fortunately. Nice videos Hannah. Ty 🙂

Good job, see soo many taking incorrect drops when claiming unplayable ball drives me crazy
@mrradman29862 жыл бұрын
Experienced golfer I played with took an unplayable drop closer to the hole from a lie bush up against a fence in the comp on sunday. In reality there was nowhere to drop within 2 club lengths and it was impossible to go back on a line away from the pin as the fence was OB. He should have replayed the shot he thinned from the other side of the green. I wasn't marking his card and he wasn't going to win so I didn't bother to get involved. also played with a lad who tried to claim a drop on 'line of entry' into a hazard rather than a two club length drop from the hazard line to get himself clear of a tree. I put a stop to that one.

Excellent !! I LOVE Lady Golf Pros ! I was a rules official for The Futures Tour (Think The LPGA's Korn Ferry). I learned so much from those ladies. And the golf game posessed by these players is outstanding and a total treat to watch. Most men would be wise to watch more LPGA Golf, as the ladies hit the ball far more similar distances to their own. Their thinking process on the course is easier to transfer to your own game. And ladies tend to be more detail oriented. And lets face the facts, they are just much more pleasant to be around than we are.

If your scorecard is to be used for handicap purposes then you have to plat with the published local rules for that course and competition. This local rule is rarely seen. However, for general play (among friends with no scorecards to be handed in for handicaps), you can elect your own committee and decide to implement model local rule E-5. If you want to do that it's worth checking out the three diagrams in MLR E-5 that show where a drop can be made under this local rule.

What do I do if hit off the tee, think it’s in play, but then cannot find it? Can I drop close to where I was confident it landed? I was using the same TaylorMade balls you use this last weekend. I hit from the tee, but when searching for the ball, the green stripe was facing me and made the ball invisible. I wound up dropping (with penalty) where I was confident the ball landed, mostly to not mess up weekend muni course pace of play, but wound up finding that ball coming back down the next holes fairway, as the white became visible form the other side of the ball. That said, what is the rule if we get to the fairway, thought it was in play, but then just simply can’t find the ball? On a side note, if you have any contact with TaylorMade, please tell them to make that same ball, which is my favorite, with a different color stripe! Red? Blue? Literally anything other than green… Thanks for the video!

If you hit off the tee and can’t find your ball you have to go back to the tee and hit again under penalty. So you would be hitting 3 off the tee. Best thing to do is if you don’t see where the ball lands from the tee, hit a provisional which you can then play if you don’t find your first ball!

Rule 4 - unplayable ball question - if you had hit a provisional thinking there was a chance the original ball could be lost, can you use the provisional you took as the stroke and distance shot or do you still have to go back and replay the shot? (which seems crazy and time-wasting!)
@nationalclubgolfer2 жыл бұрын
No, you have to go back and play the shot! It is time-wasting but just how it is.
@ianburton92232 жыл бұрын
Might be useful to know that the unplayable rule can be used only if you (or anyone else) find the ball. The player is not obliged to look for the ball, but if someone does find the ball, the player is obliged to identify the ball (hence the reason for dots or initials on the ball) then the found and identified ball becomes the ball in play and the provisional must be abandoned. If your ball is clearly deep in the woods, you can always take a stroke and distance penalty immediately (making sure everyone knows it is NOT a provisional) and put another ball in play - then it no longer matters if someone finds your ball 30 yards into the woods.

Good stuff, and well presented..............additional points........ learn the difference between red staked hazards and yellow staked, rules are not the same regarding where you can drop. The "take stroke and distance and go back to the tee" option is technically correct but not practical on a Sunday with a group on the tee behind you. I encourage people to hit more provisional balls if you think you may have a problem. This one will drive the purists crazy, (Mr. Golf skip to the end).........but if you are not a stickler for the rules and your group agrees learn the "relaxed rules of golf". It makes the game move more quickly and makes it more fun..............Greatest game ever created, the handicap system makes players of all abilities able to compete with each other, and what other game can you play and enjoy for decade after decade. .................One more thing.............If you are not a good golfer, quit playing the tips, folks. Move up a tee or two, it will make the game more enjoyable for you and will speed up play as well.

@ianburton92232 жыл бұрын
The ball does not have to be really "unplayable". Only the player can determine that the ball is "unplayable". An opinion from any other player is irrelevant. If the two club length drop for lateral relief for an unplayable ball still leaves you in difficulty, the player has a new situation. In that situation the player can declare the ball unplayable again and all three options are available. If in the new unplayable situation the player decides to take stroke and distance then the ball goes back to where the last stroke was played (not where it was in the first unplayable situation).
@midlifebiker74242 жыл бұрын

Here's an interesting scenario which happened in my group. Tee ball went towards out of bounds area. Because he was unsure if ball was still inbound he decided to hit a provisional. We went to the first ball, and sure enough it was out of bounds. Now the funny part, he was unable to find his provisional ball. First ball went left and O.B. Second ball went right and disappeared. Suffice it to say an argument ensued because of course there was money on the line and none of us knew the ruling for this situation. What are your thoughts of this?
@anthonycoleman19092 жыл бұрын
DS, the provisional comes into play once you find the first ball is OB. Now because you have lost the provisional on the righthand side of fairway/rough, he would have to play another ball from the tee, so he would be playing 5 off the tee.
