I was tough, physical and mental. I was 39, fit as only a military man can be. I did all the runs with my men. With 80lb packs. Then one sunny October day I was biking home from the base and I was hit by a car broadside. I woke up in the hospital. And all the physical toughness evaporated. But the mental toughness increased.

Things which I learned after watching this video: 1) toughness is about enduring pressure. Enduring pressure means to make the right decision in a tough position and stick to it to the very end. 2) Enduring pressure by making right decisions in a tough spot doesn't guarantee that you are going to win every time, but you will surprise yourself and you will be more ready to handle the next challenge. 3) Enduring physical pain is also one kind of mental toughness, which is the most highlighted one in this regard. 4) Not showing pain is also a sign of mental toughness. Conclusion: It's all about a mentality of "just a little bit more" keeping saying it and pushing yourself is the key to success ultimately.

I swear I understood this when I got high for like 3rd time. I was walking with my friend in the night high as fuck, then all of a sudden I relaxed my mind, then so many deep thoughts came through my mind and this was one of them! And also I see this life just like a game, whatever you choose to do, even small small choices is what writes your future. For example you r in your class, you are quite. You control what people will think of you for the next 1 day, 1 week, year or for life depending on what you are going to do. For example you stand up and put your pants down and pee in the middle of the class room. If you are gonna do that you'll always be remembered in your class mates minds for the rest of their life, and that'll be a life where your class mates remember you as the wierd kid that peed in the classroom. But if you act like normal, then that life you could've had won't happen. I don't know if you read this far or get what I'm saying. But if you did remember you write your future and this life is a game and YOU control it.

I had a very important basketball game and I was nervous and scared that I might not be able to perform well, and I was thinking about not going to the game. Brilliant, relevant, so many good parts. 5 mins longer, applies to so many areas of life, regain composure, seek clarity, stick it out. Preparation is the game, can 5x or 100x your results. Have to seek out paths that create the mentality of "you'll have to kill me to take me out of the game". Value of keeping your word, I'll be creating that value and bond with my kids - thank you. I was in a situation where I recently resigned from my Exco position and stood up to a Board... and I lost because of their powerful relationships and corruption. It was hard, but I didn’t back down and stood by my beliefs. Though I didn’t get the result I wanted, the company’s DNA was shown to many stakeholders through their cold and deceitful public responses and people have thanked me for being their voice. Patrick, you helped me realize so much in this video. I am grateful!

This subject is a huge problem in our modern world at least in US society at the moment & has been building negative momentum for quite some time. Also, ancillary topics like coping mechanisms, instant gratification & postponement of gratification are related issues that have huge implications as well. We ostensibly all realize that we have a cultural issue with attention deficits which is loosely related to problems with instant gratification & postponement of gratification. Currently, it seems that people are generally less likely to postpone gratification & make the necessary sacrifices for a better result or reward down the road, at leads anecdotally. As such, the probable by product of this is a greater desire, want, need or dependence on “instant gratification.” We live in a pampered service based society now where instant gratification is a huge thing. For example, we can order food on our phones & get it within 20mins or so. Need some supplies or maybe an actual item or good? In major metro areas we can order a substantial good like say an Xbox & get it delivered in 2 hours - that’s insane. The scope, logistics, complexities, etc of running these services is insane. Anyway, these topics or issues are quite serious & they obviously have short-term & long-term implications. However, it’s nothing when you consider mental toughness & a major related component of it in coping mechanisms. We see this issue everywhere now & at alarming frequencies & to escalating degrees involving serious consequences. We see so many instances in the news now. We see instances of road rage, a food order gone awry or even occurences between two strangers bumping in to each other. We see people who maybe have some previous pent up aggression but ostensibly snap at minor, petty or trivial occurrences. It’s crazy. We see people flipping out over a perceived rotten glance or getting bumped into. People are going 0-60 in a split second over small stuff & it’s troubling. The real & major issue with this is the seemingly more common result or response to this poor coping ability or complete lack of any coping mechanism is that people seem to be responding by lashing out irrationally & doing so using violence with bitter intent to harm or cause damages. It’s crazy. People are walking around on egg shells. Also, we see people snapping & reacting violently for little to no reason & certainly not from any provocation. It’s a troubling trend that I am sure we have all seen increasing in greater numbers & frequency with alarmingly escalating levels of bad outcomes & damages. It’s a common occurrence in major cities that dominate the news & it’s not only troubling but terrifying. We see it in its various forms too: in salient major crimes, in road rage instances, during assaults, in domestic issues, etc. Besides the spike in crime, what other factors are causing this? Mental illness? Deterioration of social norms, values & mores? Whatever the cause or causes, it’s an alarming trend that needs to be investigated. We have a lot of modern issues many of which seem to be caused by, exacerbated or worsened by things such as social media. The real world consequences are not only seemingly bad & increasing but can have reverberating negative effects that can affect us all.

Great video! That's why many of us inmigrants triumph in this country, we have been grown-up under pressure and don't fear a challenge. Heck, when you decide to leave your entire life behind and start anew, you can't fear anything. Let me rephrase that, you still fear, but you know how to confront your fear. Amazing video Pat!
