Should probably be noted that flip summons do not count for Nibiru. Had a dino player use tyranno's effect during i summoned 2 monsters(Had my own nibiru on field from their MP2) and they tried to include my flip-summon towards the 5. Already knew they had Nibiru because I had hit it with Omega earlier lol.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious. Flip Summon is not too much of a summon outside of name (meaning it does trigger certain cards like Torrential), but most modern cards specify Normal (including Tribute) summon and Special Summon in their lore since Flip Summoning/Setting monsters is kinda weak and not really gonna help modern players (i.e. Red-Eyes Fusion/Rhongomyniad vs older cards like Lava Golem and ScapeGoat...wait you can SET with SCAPEGOAT?! But you can't Flip Summon...interesting...I guess it's not so obvious after all!!)

Could you please elaborate on Pendulum monsters vs Dimension Shifter? It is a game mechanic for Pendulum cards to go to the extra deck when they are removed from the field. Why would they get banished?

Card effects take precedence over game mechanics when the two conflict. This is explained in the rulebook on page 50. If a game mechanic says that Pendulum Monster Cards on the field would go to the Extra Deck instead when they are sent to the GY, and a card effect says that cards are banished instead when they are sent to the GY, the card effect wins. They'll be banished instead.

It has always been like this, see D Fissure and Macro Cosmos for the earliest examples. Pendulums are sent to the ED by game mechanics HOWEVER they still leave the field and when two cards are telling you where a card should go it is a known fact that Card Effects > Game Mechanics. Shifter takes precedence since it is a card effect. It’s kind of like this your monster gets destroyed and it has two options either by game mechanics like any monster it would be sent to the GY (because it’s a pendulum it instead goes to the ED) or because of Shifter it would be banished as it would attempt to go to the GY like any other card, but it wouldn’t get the chance to go to the ED due to Shifter overruling the Pend game mechanic. I hope that explaination made some sense.

There is a lot more to talk about Nibiru if you followed groups like Adjudication Conflagration recently. For example, some general consensus : You can't activate Nibiru if Winda is on the field (since you need to do two special summons, Nibiru + the token), you can't activate it if Token Collector is on the field (since you can't summon the token either), and also, if Nibiru is activated but removed from the hand before resolving (example, Player A activates Nibiru, Player B chains Mind Crush and declares Nibiru, forcing the discard), it will still try to resolve as much as possible, consequently tributing all face-up monsters but summoning nothing in return (not itself, and no token).

So I remember an interaction between Toadally Awesome-summoned from ED-and Nekroz of Unicore where Toad could still resolve its negate and steal effect if it tributed itself. Why does Dark Ruler work differently, taking your Lonefire example?

Because 1: when unicore is on the field it negates only monsters that were special summoned from the extra deck that are still on the field. When toad activates, and tributes itself for cost, its in the graveyard by the time it starts resolving, and unicore has no control over stuff that resolves in the graveyard. 2 DRNM specifically states that no monster effect can be chained to DRNM (meaning to at least fulfill the cost). This means that even if the monster's cost puts it in a place that was different than where the monster began, it still cannot chain itself to DRNM because of the condition that get immediately applied to the field when DRNM gets activated (that no monster can respond to that card)

Question for MST.TV: What is the ruling for the Tributing over a combinations of a link monster(s) and monsters with defense, does the token gain the total defense? Or does it automatically becomes 0 defense because of the link monster does not have a defense stat? I had it ruled at a local tournament that the token's defense has becomes zero automatically cause the link does not have defense stat, therefore it is considered unknown defense, and ultimately becoming zero defense on board. If u have some monster s with Def and some link monsters .... Then just add up whatever that has DEF. Link monsters are considered no defense so nothing to add. So think about it this way. A is a link, b and c is not Starting point atk: 0+a+b+c. Def: 0+b+c.

Hi, I'm not tombox, but I'm pretty sure the answer is yes and yes based on the card text. One thing worth bearing in mind though: drop Dimension Shifter going first and you'll only have Dimension Shifter in the grave until the end of your opponent's turn; so Titan and Colossus won't get their protection effects.

No..... The moment you count that you have summoned 5 monster+ total. (They don't all have to be on the field) it counts the total number of monsters you have summoned in the turn. You can get nibirued. So example. You pendulum summon 4 monsters.. that's 4 monsters summoned, you link summon into Borrelsword with all of them that's 5. You opponent can use Nibiru on ur 1 Borrelsword. If you go from guardragon Elpy, to pisty to summon from grave and deck and make 1 more link summon, You can get nibirued. It's just it's not counting instances of summons, it's counting the number you have placed during your entire turn. Removing them from the field doesn't reduce your summon count.

If your playing Crusadia guardragon, rhen prepare to get your board smashed to bits regardless. Guardragon combo always gets completely trashed unless you start with apollousa. If you have elpy,pisty agarpain, 100% your board will chained.by nibiru .

Nibiru token takes the original attack so it would count as zero, unless the original attack was modifed by effect some monster gain original attack then it would count as such. Check the wording on how those monsters gain attack. Gren Maju would be 0 as it's not an original attack.

You can chain Hot Red to a S/T to Dark Ruler? Seems kinda weird since when you activate Mirror Force and your opponent responds with trap stun, you could still respond with Magic Cylinder since it's in response to the attack declaration still, and the same goes for Bottomless CL1 Trapstun CL2 and Torrential CL3, while you could also respond with something to negate Trap Stun and then still respond with your last trap to end the attack/summon...yet Dark Ruler is more strict in that it is only directly specifically itself. Well...that's just...good grief.

No, if winda is on board. You cannot nibiru due to the fact that tributing and special summoning of nibiru is considered 2 special summons. Now here is the second part, after the "and" nibiru special summons itself. After this clause they used the word "then" to special summon the token. So nibiru and the token are considered 2 SEPARATE instances special summons, not ONE instance of special summon as per wording of winda.

It affects all the monsters in that player's possession albiet any other effect like dark mirror force requiring face down monsters to be banished.

The way it works is that either your opponent normal summons five times or special summons five times they both won't be counted together

Card effects take precedence over game mechanics when the two conflict. This is explained in the rulebook on page 50. If a game mechanic says that Pendulum Monster Cards on the field would go to the Extra Deck instead when they are sent to the GY, and a card effect says that cards are banished instead when they are sent to the GY, the card effect wins. They'll be banished instead.

soo.... interaction that happened at my locals last night. opponent was doing danger thunder crusadia board. dude got to 4 summons, activated dark ruler no more, summons his 5th monster, can i respond with nibiru at that point? we said yes in that instance but i wanted to make sure. it was just locals so it was nbd but just curious.

Yes you can because Nibiru was not on the field. However in Mystic Mine's case, if your opponent summon 5 monsters but still control less monsters than you do, you cannot activate Nibiru's effect. Hope that clarifies the difference.

Question for dark ruler no more how does it work with ABC dragon buster? Since buster can resolve under skill drain if you chain the second effect to tribute it. And also if I play thunder my board is negated buuuut after later on the turn my opponent activates a spell like say engage can I chain hot red on engage and then tribute hot red with hieratic seal (and basically after it’s the same as the question with ABC dragon buster)

That's because skill drain does not negate *activation* . It negates *effects* of monsters on the field. Buster can't *activate* under ruler because not only does ruler negate effect it specifically states you cannot activate monsters effects in response to it Edit: This is assuming you are trying to use buster upon the activation of ruler. If not then yes. Post resolution of ruler, you can activate buster and use its other effect for cost to remove it from the field.

My boy MST, I absolutely need your help. One of my friends keeps wrecking me because he doesn't want me to activate the effect of Ultimate Conductor Tyranno to switch his Monsters into facedown position while he controls a Link Monster. So my question goes as follow: Can I activate UCT's effect if my opponent controls a Sunlight Wolf and a Miragestallio, knowing that UTC's card text states "destroy one Monster in hand/field, and if you do, change ALL face-up Monsters your opponent controls into face-down defense position"? His main argument is that seen that Sunlight Wolf will not be switched at resolution the effect of UTC cannot be activated at all. This is a huge deal for any Dino player. Please enlighten me😭😭😭

Your friend is not right about this ruling. Ultimate Conductor Tyranno is flipping the monsters face-down and the effect is applied to every monster with no exception, once the effect goes through. However, link monsters will not be put face-down due to their ruling and their mechanic. Which means, UTC puts everything face-down, but you have to leave the link monsters face-up, since theoretically they have been turned face-down, but they will never actually be face-down because they can't be (if you understand). Also the part of the position changing effect is not a condition that needs to be meet like the destruction part. If you managed to destroy the monster in hand or field as requirement, the flip face-down effect is "forced" every monster they control. However, like I already explained, link monsters will stay face-up. If you have YgoPro, you can test this scenario out for yourself and it will give you this result as well (if you need evidence).

Hello Mister tombox, I had an interesting discussion with a friend about dark ruler no more against nekroz of unicore and we couldn't figure out what is supposed to happen. Scenario : Player A has nekroz of unicore and a monster, specialed from the ed, let's say winda. Player B activates dark ruler no more. Since winda's effect is negated allready by unicore, does dark ruler negate winda, or does it only negate unicore, which would enable winda's effect to be active again? We just can't figure it out old help me 😂

It's like pendulums vs. macro cosmos, game mechanics are affected by card effects. Pendulums are a mechanic where "instead of going to the graveyard, they go to the top of your extra deck." The card effect replaces that if they go to the graveyard, "remove it from play" or "banish". Card effects affect the game state first, then game mechanics second.

Also, if monsters are unaffected by card effects they cannot be tributed by Nibiru. Example you activate Miscellaneousaurus to protect Dinos. They will not be tributed.

Also, remember miscellaneousaurus only protects for the main phase you discarded it, your opponent can activate Nibiru during the main phase 2 and there your dinos could be tributed.

No, Becuase clear wing negates on field and The rock activates in hand. So it would be trubiuted off before it could negate. Now crystal wing will negate and destroy, cause that reads "When another monsters affect is activated"
