I'm old enough to have seen punk the first time round and this actually gives me hope for the future. Punk's not dead, it's still alive in bands like this.

When they played in Brighton a few months ago, Charlie Harper and his wife went along to see them. A guy I was with spoke to them both, and they were saying that a lot of the older punk guys like to go out to that part of the world, more Japan than Korea in truth, and work with punk bands out there because they are full of ideas, and not stuck in a "punk has to be x, y & z" attitude. They say it's more like how punk used to be from a musician's standpoint.

This is actually the joint 7th most watched Rumkicks video. If you'd had a lot of views in the last few days, it might be because of an incident in their Indonesia tour that's just finished, where a guy from a local 'real hardcore' band threw a pint glass (thankfully plastic) full of beer at Yeawon's face from close range during their set. The band's UK tour manager put an angry tweet out about it which went viral in Indonesia, having been seen now over a million times in 3 days.

@@diariesofdoom Yeah. They seemed to put it behind them easy enough. The guy who did it was thoroughly outed, and had to put out a grovelling apology, no doubt due to the amount of attention he was suddenly getting, and that appears to be the end of it. Rumkicks will be back at the same venue in Birmingham on the 31st of July this year.

@@careful...Icarus Their UK tour manager wasn't there. The tour was assisted by an Indonesian punk band, Turtles Junior, that they met at Rebellion last year. The guy ran away pretty sharpish. His apology contained the bizarre excuse that somebody in the crowd had kicked him, and he was feeling upset.

@@clivemortimore8203 They went down really well at the Rebellion Festival. They do get far more than their fair share of haters though. I always get the impression that hate comes from they main angles. 1) they are women 2) they are Asian 3) they aren't 'harcore punk' which some seem to think is the only 'real' punk. In truth, if someone just doesn't like the music, that's fine. All musical taste is subjective. Some just think they are jumping on some kind of bandwagon because it's trendy, rather failing to appreciate that western culture is not universal, and punk is anything but trendy in Korea. The singer also plays guitar in another punk band called Rux, and they (before she joined) caused something of a national incident on live tv, which resulted in punk being banned from the screens there.

@@RevStickleback From when I heard John Peel play a Kleenex record I have always liked female punk bands, I enjoy them more than most male bands. Does it matter where a band comes from, especially if they play music you like, if race or nationality comes into your like or dislike of a band you are one sad person. What is hardcore punk? Blokes in their 60s singing about the kids being united? Punk evolves, and if it remains fun to those listening to it, going to gigs and playing it then it servers its purpose, Rum Kicks do that. I follow them on Facebook, and there was a wonderful photo of them with Maid of Ace. How to get an old man like me excited. 🥵
