Rumble in the Bronx (1995) - Jackie Chan - Comedic Movie Review/Trivia

The late Anita Mui the "Madonna of Hong Kong", she was a legend in Hong Kong Cantopop music scene, and also a bit controversial when she was alive, both her private life and political view and also had a pretty turbulent childhood (She started to sing in seedy bars when she was less than 10 years old, as her mom push her to be famous), become famous at mere age of 20 years old with her music. Had connection with the Chinese Triad where she one time during the 1990's (At that time, Hong Kong movie industry got infiltrated by the Chinese Mafia as a way to laundry money thus there were alot of movies produced during the 90's both great and both sleazy CAT III) refused to be in a movie that a Triad group was investing in where she end up getting a slap on her face. And nearly end up getting assassinated when that said Triad guy who slapped her got killed by a Triad "friend" of hers, which she deny she is not friend with. But the rival Triad blame her for the death of him. Sadly she past away in late 90's from sickness, she made alot of movies thru the 80's to early 90's from Dramas, Action, Comedy and horror and alot of music that I still listen to and recently there was a biopic movie about Anita Mui.

@@RedEyeReviewsI am sure you might seen her appear in other movies that was made in 80's and early 90's. Some that is memorable was A Better Tomorrow 3 and Heroic Trio. Rumble in Bronx was made during Anita was "hiding" after the Triad incident so she appeared in less movies at that time in 1995. I remember she died somewhere in 1998 or 1999

Jackie chan's choreography is really some of the best in the business. It's so expressive through the body language alone. He really does pay homage to Buster Keaton in the best of ways and in his own unique way.

I love how Jackie Chan always has a simple sort of plot he's always some sort of special operative and has a wacky assortment of characters around him while he himself also has wacky qualities even if it gets similarities, the fact that it just oozes with charm makes it absolutely amazing and all the more charming

Jackie was one of the extras in Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon. After seeing this in the theaters, my friends and I started tracking down videos of Jackie's Hong Kong movies - he's such an incredible performer.

This is the first Jackie Chan movie I saw in theaters. I'd been a fan for some time beforehand, but I was at college and they did a screening for the students (to create buzz, which worked.) So, it's a bunch of college kids watching a free movie, so at first they weren't taking it seriously. Then Jackie does the scene with the wing chun dummy and... silence falls. The theater learned his dude was serious, that he's so damn good he can punch a *dummy* and it's awesome.

I dind't know anything about Jackie Chan. Then i saw the commercial for this movie with Ben Stein, when he said he does all his own stunts and it showed some of the fight footage, I said to myself I got to see this guy. After i came out of that theater I was a jackie Chan fan for life.

I can tell you that Jackie did NOT do the roof jump. It's pretty clear in the Blu-Ray as well ;). The jump is performed by Stanley Tong (the director).

@@RedEyeReviews yes. There is some better source where somebody on set talks about it, but I cannot find it. However, Jackie is doubled for a LOT of stunts. If you don't see his face, it's probably not him. In this case, there isn't really any reason to believe it is him. Don't forget that he is already in his 40's here. The helicopter jump you showed at the beginning is also not fully Jackie. Same goes for the jump in the water. Jackie is doubled in almost every movie he did. Mostly back falls and b-roll footage for major stunts and short hard hits. A few examples: he did not do the FULL clock tower fall in Project A. He did not perform the end jump in Rush Hour. He tries to do as much as possible, but like he said himself; if you don't see my face, it's not me (probably). Another example is the bridge jump at the end of Accidental Spy. If you want I can share much more (since it's my passion). But there's always reasons for doubling. Injuries, time or the fact that somebody else can make it look better. Jackie is doubled a few times in his famous fight with Benny the Jet in Dragons Forever as well. And he is doubled extensively for all car action in Armour of God. Anyway, he is a legend. But after researching him, freeze framing his movies, and stunts for a long time (for example, listen to the old Bey Logan commentaries on the Hong Kong Legends DVD's) I am now watching his movies more objectively. He has done more for action than anyone else. Yes, Bruce cannot stand in his shadow with only 5 movies (Bruce is also doubled in fight scenes). Jackie is a legend, but he's also human. You can actually see it all very well if you buy the remastered blu-ray versions of his movies. Also, watch his Gorgeous fight and try to spot the fight doubles ;).

@@Shaki123 Thank you for the great details! I am right there with you, I love this part of movies. I am the kind who watches a movie, and then immediately rewatches with commentary tracks on. But yes he is a real legend of action, specifically the incredible style of comedic action, and no one does environmental fighting better. But I also know the movie magic exists, and the man isn't invincible. I actually am avoiding reading his auto biography because apparently he comes off as a bit of an asshole in his personal life.. But I prefer to keep the curtain drawn and pretend he is perfect haha

I lived in a small tourist beach town and I introduced my friends to Jackie Chan with this movie. One of my HS best friend and college roommate was a manager at the dollar theatre and I made the group watch this movie. They totally fell in love with him. After this movie they we went to see every Jackie Chan movie afterwards.

He can't poke a hole into the hovercraft because that black stuff is only a skirt that gets the air pressure under hovercraft to be slightly above the air pressure outside the skirt. So, a small hole would do almost nothing except maybe let the hovercraft hover a centimeter less high above ground.

I was about 16 when this movie came out. It's been one of my FAVORITE action movies ever since!! Some of Jackie's BEST stunt work (EVER), is in this one!! I love the narrative that they deliver as well,, of humanizing people from different places, cultures, and walks of life. With Jackie and the gangsters seeing each other as equals, and getting along by the end of the movie... This one gets two thumbs WAY UP in my book!!👍👍

Just some more trivia the original shop owner is Bill Tung a JC regular whose sadly passed away. The new female owner is Anita Mui who has also sadly passed away, she was this mega star in HK. Then the Chinese shop lifter was Ailen Sit who was a JC regular stuntman and choreographer but again had sadly passed away. A side note, I'm a huge JC fan but the jump between the buildings was not performed by JC and as you mentioned was by Stanley Tong and the footage we see was never JC. JC lied about it and at the end he had to come clean about it as soon as people started disproving it. I'm not trying to diminish JCs abilities but I think it's worth noting.

I remember one of the first movies I saw Jackie in was one of the old timey Hong Kong flicks where he got his start. One scen he sits down at a restaurant and orders dog off the menu...my buddy and I cracked up. His older stuff is great.

I actually own this movie on actual Blu Ray disk. I bought it for £5.00 back in 2016 brand new from amazon and it was worth every penny. I had a downloaded copy before this but its so good its one of those films that i simply had to town on the best format possible.

I loved this movie when it came out. The fight scenes were like nothing id ever seen. After the movie they show you all the times they messed up the stunts and people got legit injured. Jackie himself is in it a few times.

Difference between Jackie Chan's and Steven Segal's careers: Jackie had to do his own fights and stunts. Steven had to sit in a chair mumbling to himself about what's taking the pizza delivery guy so long! Jackie had many out takes at the end of his films. Steven had many take outs by the end of his. Jackie speaks English clearly as a second language. Steven knows all languages from every country... At least enough to read from his favourite reading material - takeaway menus!
