Rumble/Rawhide (Link Wray Medley)

If anybody is wondering how to get that tone in ‘Rumble’ it’s not too hard if you have a valve amp… dime the volume and gain, and if possible scoop the mids a bit. My cheapo Bugera v5 with a cheap Jensen speaker and an EQ pedal does it surprisingly well with a Jazzmaster on bridge. If you have an amp that breaks up at lower volumes the key is to keep the volume and gain set the same, to my ears having one higher than the other doesn’t sound quite right.

Link Wray, Duane Eddy, The Ventures, the Surf bands, then to Chuck Berry and The Beach Boys … Oh. My. God. This stuff is brilliant, and you are playing it so well. Thank you for all these amazing videos. At 75 and teaching guitar, along with still performing live, people deserve to hear where guitar rock and roll came from. THIS IS WHERE!!!
