To all those people saying “AJ was just running”: First of all, you’re just casuals, because boxing is a sport of strategy and adaptation. AJ did just that, he outboxed Ruiz exploiting his opponent’s weaknesses. If you think a fight is just standing face to face and trading punches, you clearly don’t know much about boxing and, secondly, you’re not going to last very long as a fighter that way. AJ’s tactic was to remain light on the feet, keep moving, mantaining distance with a precise jab. If you believe that that’s easy means you don’t know shit about being 12 rounds in a boxing ring. AJ’s conditioning was extraordinary, how he kept moving, switching things up, man, that’s a world class fighter right there. Joshua definetly deserves to be Heavyweight champion! (Don’t get me wrong, Ruiz is also an amazing fighter, but he got outsmarted this time. Now I would love to see AJ fight Wilder or Fury in the near future)

It's crazy how much one loss can mature someone so much. This is why losses can serve to define the greatest fighters- in positive lights. People that don't really watch boxing, think that being undefeated is the greatest quality a boxer can have. But like every great person in any profession, in any avenue of life- true boxing legends are built like symphony's. There tales in the ring are what make them great champions, their bravery, their adversary. I'm glad Anthony had this loss, because now we get to know what kind of champion he truly is.
@mikeypc35924 жыл бұрын
Well said. The one thing that was always concerning me was how big and bulky he was getting. The loss made him re-evaluate his training, trim down and make focus more on boxing. Now to add to his arsenal, he's got boxing ability and stamina. Plus he's got the added mental strength of coming back from defeat to reach the top again.
@jdub80104 жыл бұрын
I agree with what u said BUT, let's say jawshua was still undefeated and his rival had 1 loss on record, you'd be singing a different tune saying Jawshuas better he never lost
@stevenhageman82554 жыл бұрын
j dub that’s not true at all, not even close, it would depend on who his rival was. I don’t think Anthony is the best champion that ever lived. I think there are several champions before him with losses that would beat him, if we put him against Tyson, Hagler, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Dempsey, or Holyfield to name a few, I honestly don’t think he’d win, and all those guys had losses. I think he has a lot more to do to prove to me that he’s as good as those men. If he can beat Deontay and Fury, the discussion MIGHT change. We have a heavy weight division that, if it pits itself against each other, has the opportunity to be one of the better of all time. It’s an exciting time with Ruiz, Joshua, Wilder, Tyson, Whyte, Usyk(still rocky on him because of his debut into the heavyweights), Ortiz, Dubois and a few others. Anyways got a bit carried away- but to drive my point home. There are several tuna can boxers that cherry pick and stay undefeated for years, but anybody with any real boxing sense can recognize talent and can recognize that when these guys come up against a real champion, that they’ll lose their 0. Being undefeated only means something when you have the resume. As much as I detest Mayweather- you can’t deny his skill. He was not only undefeated, but has one of the most impressive resumes in boxing history.
@stevenhageman82554 жыл бұрын
Born Nocturnal I don’t think that’s really an accurate statement. I would agree that Andy is more than deserving of a rematch, and that we can’t easily discern who is better. However what we can say is that Andy knocked Joshua out, fair and square, becoming the champion. Then, Joshua came back, and beat Andy squarely in points. Unanimously even. I agree with that call. So while I say it’s deeply competitive- both of them are more than deserving champions, neither deserves to be delegitimized based on the fact that one was better prepared than the other on the night.
@adeniyiamos9174 жыл бұрын
@@stevenhageman8255 , they both had good 6 months of preparation; the phrase' better prepared' is out of discussion, please. If one is careless and ill-prepared for a world title, whose fault? What an excuse!The truth is AJ may not be able to cope very well with Ruiz combo and Ruiz cannot definitely cope with AJ's new boxing style. If Ruiz is well prepared, his short reach and heavy built are his disadvantages to defeating AJ if AJ sticks to his new style.

I had just became an Anthony Joshua fan after his fight with Klitscho and began to follow him more and more until after his rematch with Ruiz. I'm of Mexican decent and I was still a Joshua fan even after his loss to Ruiz but then the rematch happened. Alot of people call it 'outboxed' but I call it 'outfoxed' in a match that was already gifted. It was a disappointment for me to see this from Joshua, considering that Ruiz was still an underdog that was overweight, on the other side of the pond, much slower in a bigger ring than the first match, and had no chance against the judges whatsoever. I mean, Joshua stood toe to toe with Klitscho and has had other tough fights and yes I agree with Joshua OUTBOXING Ruiz, but hell, he didn't even give us a few seconds to show some of that brutal strength and give his FANS a few golden nuggets of what's to come. For that, I question his mindset until he fights someone in the ranks of a Wilder or a Fury and snaps back into his old self again. I know he can do it but its gonna be a tough road, good luck champ!
