Hey all, I've done about 10 or so church services, modern praise and worship tunes with this box. I would say overall I'm very happy with it, excellent bang for buck with all the features it has and I honestly do believe it has impro6my sound as well. Probably my favorite part is the mid control. I also run a fairly light compression all the time and it works well. Excellent value! Thanks Fender!

Hi RM, new to your channel, but wanted to say thanks for posting this one. I was on the fence on it and you helped me make a decision to pick one up. I couldn't be happier with it. Would you consider making a video on your home practice setup? Like a "Strings-to-speakers -- How to build a bass practice rig." kind of video? Maybe something that outlines your setup and the signal flow between the instrument, supporting gear, the computer and any software you like to use? It sounds great and I'd like to replicate that with my little home practice area. Either way, thanks again and hope you have a great day.

BJJnut hey brother, thank you SO MUCH for the kind words and for being an encourager. I really appreciate it. I’m super happy for you that you have a Downtown Express on the way!! I actually don’t own one, as this one was on loan from Fender. But whenever I do get a new DI for bass, it will probably be this one. At the moment, it’s unbeatable! And thank you for the the great suggestion. I would be more than glad to film a video showing my home practice / recording setup. That’s a great idea!! God bless you brother.

How is the Downtown Express treating you so far? Considering one of these for Sunday worship use. I had read a couple of places that the signal isn't hot enough for some people. What's been your experience? I bbn play an active Yamaha. Thanks.
@RumblinMan5 жыл бұрын
bassguitar1919 I personally think the Downtown Express is amazing for worship music and running direct. That said, I actually don’t own one as this was on loan from Fender for the review. I can see how there could be a hard time getting enough gain, as I’ve had the same problem with other units. But there are a number of ways to boost gain, so I wouldn’t let that discourage you - especially with an active bass which will have really stable output. I say go for it!

@@AirborneSubmariner I would go with the Ernie Ball VP JR tuner volume pedal so that you could use it as both a tuner and volume pedal. I almost always put mine before the rig, but you can’t go wrong putting it after the rig so that it eliminates any noise that may come from the pedal.

I have the Downtown. I love it. My chain is a Digitech Bad Monkey, a Russian Big Muff, and a Boss bass chorus. The drive on the DT is great, but even at the lowest setting it's quite dirty. So in some bands I like a more subtle drive instead. But either way, either the Monkey or the onboard overdrive are always on. Onboard EQ is always on. Rarely use the compressor. @RumblinMan5 жыл бұрын
That Guy Sup bro!! Honestly, I like the Fender better. The Spectra Drive is definitely cool, but I think the Downtown Express offers more flexibility for tailoring each effect. I also really like having an individual pedal for each feature, plus a mute switch. The Downtown Express just offers a lot of flexibility and the layout is easy to use. Plus the looks and construction. I definitely think is worth the extra $50. That’s not to knock the Spectra Drive, though!

Sounds awesome, man! I have been curious about this pedal for some tome now and given the reviews I have seen on KZbin, I really like its warm sound, especially the warm mids on this thing. I see that you have another video about the Aguilar Tone Hammer, which you then labeled the best bass preamp pedal. Has this remark changed with this pedal? How would you compare one against the other? Which one do you like best and why? What would you say are the pros and cons of each one? I have had an Ampeg SCR DI before and now have an Eden WTDI and a Hartke Bass Attack 2 now. My main basses are a P and a J and mostly like the ability to be warm but also have clear tones available. I was considering selling one of my pedals and maybe buy this one or the Sansamp VT Deluxe or this Fender or Trace Elliot Transit B. Too bad you can't justify to have them all when you are married...hehe. Anyways, thanks in advance for your comments and insight. God bless!
@MrElopez554 жыл бұрын
Also, could you also comment on the volume level on this pedal? I saw this other video where this guy is comparing an Ampeg SCR DI with this pedal and he says that he had to push the Fender volume almost all the way up to match the Ampeg 12 o clock volume level. I like the Fender eq sound better, but of course we all want to be heard right.
@RumblinMan4 жыл бұрын
So here’s the thing. The Aguilar has a slightly clearer sound to it, and also you can get a lot more gain with the Aguilar. The gain on the Downtown Express is not as great. However, I would choose this one over the Aguilar because of its features and design. It’s more useful, and can help you shape your tone more than the Aguilar can. Since the time of making this video, however, my latest favorite DI is the Darkglass Microtubes B7K Ultra ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/hICap42qetl7apY ) because I love the EQ, distortion and cab sim you can get with it. Hope that helps! At the time I reviewed the Aguilar, I was thinking that it was the best. But there have been more preamps released since then and I’ve gotten to try things I like much better. God bless you too!
@MrElopez554 жыл бұрын
@@RumblinMan thank you for the reply! Well I am not that much into bass overdrive or distortion, I barely use it and only for adding some grit to the sound. The problem with the Darkglass, at least for me, is how pricey they are. My wife would kill me if I buy my dream pedal, which is the Darglass Vintage Ultra...but anyways...I see the Fender Downtown is a strong contender!! I currently use a Hartke Bass Attack 2 and an Eden WTDI with a passive P and a passive J to drive a dedicated powered speaker I use for my bass at church. I had seen in another video that they stated that the volume level on the Fender Downtown Express was a little low, which in my particular situation would mean to push the powered speaker a little more, which I would prefer not to...any comments on that? Or do you think the ouput level is comparable to any bass DI pedal? God bless...
@RumblinMan4 жыл бұрын
MrElopez55 I’m sure the Downtown Express would be fine, but at the same time agree about the lower volume level. So, it’s a slight risk to get one. But, if it were loud enough, it would be a great purchase because of its features and great sounds. So, the winner is.... Darkglass.
