Thanks so much for these vids. I been cleaning a recently purchased porta 5 up and where I'm stuck is the play/record buttons don't seem to move any gears and pop up after a short time. Any hints?

Hey, the buttons themselves just move shift arms, the gears are turned by the flywheel, driven by the capstan belt. So, assuming the capstan belt and motor are healthy, you've probably got an issue where the grease under the white gears and shift arms has turned gluey or solid, so when you use those buttons theshift arm isn't moving the gears enough to engage with the flywheel. Completely remove the white plastic parts, clean off old grease with isopropyl, add a light lubricant like silicone grease and rebuild, hopefully you will have lift off?

Hey man so I figured it my issue with the mt2x. It'sa broken head base. The plastic part with a spring. The plastic is broke and the spring is. There's a 3rd island video showing how to fix it but my problem is that plastic head base is glued to that metal head mount you're showing here. Have you ever experienced this? Any idea on what to do to get it off? I've removed all screws I'm aware of. Edit: I got it off. Used a razor to pry it out. Not sure if it was glue or what but it was definitely stuck with something. Dried something maybe?

Might have been old grease if it was that bad you'll want to disassemble and clean old grease off other parts of the mechanism as well, specially the white gears on the back which raise and lieer the head, use isopropyl and replace with silicone grease or similar.
