All these stories follow the same made up stupid story, that if their love life became public, it would ruin their careers, but I can name several actors and singers who are known to be lesbian or gay and their careers haven’t suffered, I believe this is a trope just for story sake

Unfortunately, as long as there are corporate overlords and political leaders who refuse to accept the existence of non-straight couples and people, this will still be an ongoing issue for many.
