RIP Christine McVie. Thank you for the great music!

My mom named me in inspiration to their song Rhiannon because it was her favorite childhood song, i never knew how much of an impact it had but i’m grateful to be named after such an iconic song and group. Their music will forever be a hit.

One of many reasons that this song will ALWAYS be my #1 ALL TIME favorite Fleetwood Mac songs is because of the angelic background vocals heard at 8:03.

Stevie Nicks made a huge contribution to Fleetwood Mac as a great singer and rock and roll femme fatale and vamp who was also responsible for composing some of their greatest songs. She is a rock and roll legend.

She didn’t compose “dreams”. She wrote the lyrics, came to the band with it, and Lindsey composed it. Lindsey composed her songs. He said in an interview that after they broke up (relationship) that he sometimes felt like he didn’t want to help her out on her songs out of spite. She’s a great singer and lyricist, but during the FM days she wasn’t a musical contributor.

A lot of people might not like her personality but there is no question whatsoever about her vocal and songwriting talents. People who say otherwise are ignorant of music.

To me they didn't grow or change, all that happened was that Nicks and Buckingham got a rhythm section for their work and Christine McVie had a few songs recorded.
@tonybarfridge43696 жыл бұрын
I'm sure they loved the money, but they obviously enjoyed creating good music too, and the addition of the girls put new life into the mix. Without needing day jobs also, they could concentrate more fully on the music. Some enjoyed the bluesy sound of the original FM, but the later work brought them to life artistically. I don't think they intentionally devised pop hits, but that the albums were so good most any track could be released as a single and be successful.
@ShouldHaveAskedFor11 жыл бұрын
no, the fact Stevie is talented and charismatic is not opinion, it is a fact to anyone with a set of eyes and ears and a non-biased mind. You don't like her and you don't think she is talented, that is an opinion of yours, perfectly respectable. But she IS talented, which is a fact.

What a backhanded comment by Lindsey " Fleetwood Mac with hits my God" LOL Fleetwood had hits before Lindsay and Stevie joined the group they were just a different kind of band... truth be told it was actually Christine McVie that kept Fleetwood together after Peter Green left. Her ability to write songs and the way her piano Blended the group together kept it going

I respect both incarnations of FM with Peter Green and Stevie/Lindsey. However I will say I prefer Stevie and Lindsey because I prefer the pop sound they introduced versus the blues sound that the earlier FM had. Rumours IMO is one of the best albums ever made and all the disdain and heartache the members had with each other is clearly shown in the songs they recorded.

Its too difficult to determine if they were better with Peter Green or with Stevie, Chris and Lindsey. As fantastic a force that Greenie was, the two girls and Lindsey made them one of the greatest bands in history . That is pretty hard to argue with.

I agree, Peter was the one who built the band, but the most popular line up was the one that included BN. Do you remember when Stevie left the band for Time? Exactly, no one does. They are still touring and selling out stadiums. You can have your opinion, I will have mine. I'm 13 by the way. I love Christine's voice; but Stevie is simply unique. And I like that. You may not, but I do. Stevie is a part of FM that is irreplaceable. You can have your opinion, and mine stands firm.

It is only your opinion that they were better with Peter Green. I disagree very much. I think they were boring while singing the blues and I think they upgraded and found a sound and a great one, at that, with Lindsey and Nicks. They did not "sell out". How so? I loved Rhiannon, You Make Lovin' Fun, Gypsy, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, Say You Love Me and Dreams. What is so "sold out" about those songs? Those songs are awesome and creative and talented. And raw. How could you say/think that?

Dreams was / is FM's only #1 single in the US. I remember back around that time, the story about Stevie writing the song in like 10 minutes got told and re-told and re-told, like Stevie was some sort of an amazing musical genius for writing the song so fast. Uh.... that song has LITERALLY TWO CHORDS. Played over and over and over and over--- from the intro, thru the verses, the chorus, and all the way to the hard stop ending. I would also say the same two chords are used in the bridge, but this song doesn't have one. Because the song has TWO CHORDS. Dreams has always sounded to me like it was written by a bored but very alert keyboard-dabbling cokehead in the wee dark hours (well, the wee dark 10 minutes, anyways) of a stormy, sleepless coked-up night, searching for just the right chords to create that dark and witchy Stevie "mood". Stumbling on those two chords.... and then playing those two chords EVER SO SERIOUSLY over and over and over (well, for 10 minutes, I guess) while conjuring up dark, witchy lyrics... until (literally) 10 minutes later--- there's Dreams, in all of its' two chord glory. And the song goes on to make millions. And it also goes on to bore the living shit out of the guitarist and bassist who have to play those stupid two chords night after night after night after night until their fingers bleed and they're contemplating taking 10 minutes to duct tape the mouth of the cokehead who stumbled on those witchy two chords late one dark and stormy coked-up night. Or actually, during a 10-minute period late one dark and stormy night.

People forget that Fleetwood Mac was a FULL BAND effort. You take away Lindsey's arrangement/production + John's bass playing + Mick's drumming + Christine's key parts/ tasteful accents and the song is pretty boring.

OK, I can be a bit vitriolic with my opinions, but I am simply expressing my opinion. As far as her being talented or charismatic, that is YOUR opinion. Point in fact, the ONLY reason she was ever in the band is because Lindsey wouldn't join unless she came along for the ride. Opinion: Fleetwood Mac was much better when they had Peter Green in the group, with Buckingham/Nicks, they sold out.
@davidbowen1254 жыл бұрын
Yep, they sold out stadiums all over the world. Blues is a depressing and boring form of music.

i have to look at her lyrics and writing and disagree. sara. silver springs. rhiannon. she brought a seriously different element that they never had beforehand. it’s very hard to do what she did-give rock such a poetic element AND perform the live arrangements that she did (like of rhiannon). there’s a reason why peter green didn’t really put them on the map, you know?

This sort of thing is really irritating. I dont need to hear their life stories. I need to know how their studio engineers achieved each of the individual tones and sounds on the record...

Why am I not surprised your a fan? I guess it couldn't have been your user name. Anyway, Christine was CLEARLY a better singer & there is the well known fact the only reason they took on Stevie was because it was the only way Lindsey would join. Peter Green MADE that band... they became pop fluff after he left, regardless of how many albums they sold to a musically dull audience... FLUFF!

you really think any album with Peter Green has more musical merit than Rumours, Tusk or Tango in the Night? Just because one thing is blues and one is pop?
