Love this. Watched it on VHS as a child. Rumpelstiltskin didn't save her three times so much as engineer the whole situation so that he could blackmail her. In the very first scene he says he wasn't a "slave to cook and clean" and wants a "prince's son" then makes a potion. In the very next scene he is spying on said prince eyeing up the Miller's daughter and gleefully congratulating himself over his plan coming together.

hi! i’m searching a movie from the same time but i just can’t find. i’m from brazil and my english isn’t very good (so sorry about that). i remember a few things so im asking people in similar videos and hoping that i can finally find the movie! the tale was about an envy witch or something like that. she was grey and dirty... and i remember something like she being bullyied because of her appearance. so she takes the place of princess (changing their bodies). i only remember this and something about saying her name three times to reset the hole thing. sorry hahahaha but i was very little and it’s difficult to remember more. i hope you have a better memory. i’ll be very grateful if you help me to find this tale 😊

@andrewcolinwilson12 жыл бұрын
Yeah and Amy Irving is so genuinely freaked out by Billy Barty in that scene. She didn't go through all that trouble in the 1976 film, Carrie for nothing. The rage of Rumpelstiltskin is as hilarious as it is terrifying up until he stomps his foot causing the floor to crack open and him to fall right through it which believably sends Amy Irving and her servant girl to hide behind the little blackboard. Who would want to be near a crazed little man who's raging about his secret name being revealed and stomps his foot causing the floor to crack open and him to fall right through it?

Nice movie.... And the lessons are: 1. Don't back up ur parents lies. 2. Don't help a desperate person in need unless u don't want anything in return. 3. Do not help anyone turn straw into gold and expect them to keep a promise. 4. If u can make ur own gold then u can afford a maid. 5. She didn't fairly guess his name, she kinda cheated so, lie and cheat at any cost to save your baby. What lessons did u learn? Lol. 😁😂

I'm slightly troubled by the message this tale sends, though. The girl is vain, can't cook or do anything to help despite her father's poverty, does nothing but sing about how she wants and deserves a prince, falls in love with a guard, but is willing to forget him quickly when proposed to by a prince, gets into trouble and has someone use magic to bail her out, then can't face the consequences of her actions in the end because she preferred to promise to sell her baby to save her own skin, feeling certain the prince would protect her from the consequences. The film would have been a bit better had she been a better person.

I think she’s way better than how you’re painting her. Regarding vanity…she tells her father on multiple occasions not to brag about her. Regarding not cooking or helping…she does cook; just not as well as her mother apparently. I think we’re also to believe she’s picked up her mother’s duties…tending to the garden and does the laundry. Regarding deserving a prince…she’s singing about her daydreams..I don't get the sense she's moaning about how she's entitled or something. When Henry asks if she’s really going to marry the prince, you can tell she doesn’t really want to…she realizes it was just a fantasy and that she instead wants to marry Henry. When she learns Henry, who she actually has fallen for, IS the prince, I think she’s glad that it resolves that conflict. The trouble she gets into is not her fault. She couldn’t tell the truth to the king upfront after he had gotten his hopes up, without feeling like she AND her father would be beheaded. Promising to give her child to Rumpelstiltskin was her only viable options to, again, save her and her father’s lives. And yes, she trusted that the prince would save her from injustices. And that’s the situation she was in...Rumpelstiltskin was taking advantage of the fact that she was in a life-or-death situation.

The princess made a promise then changed her mind after the fact and the story makes Rumpelstiltskin the bad guy?
@bluecinderella49878 жыл бұрын
The thing about this story is you never know who to root for. Who's the bad guy: the magical, mysterious creature who wants a baby, the girl he saves who breaks her promise, or the greedy king who set the circumstances in motion?

it's not a book, it's a tale that was handed down from generation to generation. If you're referring to the version recorded by the Brothers Grimm, actually the story is the same, they just expanded things to make the film full length (and they had her marry the prince rather than the king). Yes, the miller's daughter did stiff the dwarf.

Why is everyone complaining about the girl, the king and rumpel? I blame 100% on the father (for saying such ridiculous things causing his daughter to be in trouble) and the queen for PUSHING too hard she puts a trick and insisting the girl to make more gold.. without these 2, everyone will be happy.
