This is my first video dedicated to Rumpelstiltskin my favorite character OUAT, I know that almost 5 minutes are not enough to cover the complexity of this character, try to include the most important events that have marked the life of Rumple and have forged as a person .

Rumple’s my favorite character from OUAT. There is good in him in his love for Bae, Belle, and family in general. Those things do redeem him, but I also can’t deny that he has been a monster due to his own emotional cowardice and/or selfishness at times. That being said, Kitsowitz and these writers really did Rumple and Belle dirty after they broke their own rules to resurrect him from the show’s best done two-and-a-half season redemption arc. They killed off Neal, Rumple’s main motivation for redemption, and turned Rumple into a cheaply shocking, contrived, and flanderdized on-and-off-again scapegoat cartoon tragic villain after bringing him back. They forced him back to the dark side inconsistently and unfairly through absurd, contrived, cruel, and overly convenient magical macguffins and twists of fate that broke all previously established canon rules and logic. They turned the entire narrative against him, applied an increasingly absurd and unfair set of double standards against him by making it so that he was the only one who the other characters were allowed to negatively react to and punish for being abusive, controlling, cruel, deceitful, manipulative, evil, and reckless with magic to misguidedly protect himself and/or his loved ones and/or to keep his loved ones close. Sure, some of those negative reactions of anger and distrust from other characters were justified in response to Rumple’s bad choices, crimes, and deceptions in his magical schemes that involved them, but some of those negative reactions and punishments from the other characters in regards to him were downright abusive, needlessly cruel, hypocritical, and reckless overkill that he didn’t really deserve either. The best example that I can think of this sort of unfair thing happening on the show to Rumple in the narrative is with Belle getting away with needlessly making the choice to recklessly endanger his life by forcibly exiling him with nothing forever out into the middle of nowhere in rural Maine when she found out about his lies and caught him killing Hook because she was misled to believe that he loved power more than her when she found that gauntlet that pointed her to his real dagger in 4x11, suddenly being retconned as “justified” in the narrative in 4B for no good reason at all. Sure, Rumple deserved to be dumped by Belle for plotting shady shit behind her back without her consent and/or knowledge. In real life, what he did in 4A would warrant being put in prison for committing crimes, so Belle using the dagger to force Rumple to stop killing Hook when she caught him in the act cold-bloodedly attempting to murder him was justified. Belle using the dagger to force Rumple to stop being shady at the town line when she caught him committing crimes right in front of her would have been justified. However, recklessly endangering Rumple’s life by forcibly exiling him with nothing forever out into the middle of nowhere was needlessly cruel and wrong. I don’t care that he was a criminal. In real life, what she did would be considered a crime of inhumane treatment of a criminal by law enforcement. Rumple could have died out there with nothing to survive. He almost *did* die out there because Belle forced him away with no magic to protect himself and survive out there. If Rumple *had* actually died out there because she left him with nothing to survive, then Belle would actually have been indirectly responsible for Rumple’s death. If the show treated the characters fairly, then there would have been serious negative consequences for Belle forcibly banishing Rumple with nothing because in real life putting someone through what Belle did to Rumple with that dagger when she didn’t need to use it and/or exile him with nothing to stop him would actually count as criminal and/or misdemeanor charges against *her* for domestic violence, reckless endangerment of a human life, false imprisonment, and if Rumple had actually died because he couldn’t find the means to survive after she needlessly forced him away with nothing forever, then she could even be charged with involuntary manslaughter. It doesn’t matter that Rumple was a criminal who deceived and manipulated her to keep her in the dark, then got caught in the act by her. Even criminals have rights to a fair trial, fair punishment, and humane treatment from law enforcement. If law enforcement officials needlessly steals away the autonomy of the criminal, and/or needlessly and recklessly endangers and/or harms criminals, then they are guilty of the crime of abusing their authority over criminals. It’s especially irritating to me that Belle got away with being exceedingly cruel in her punishment of Rumple in the narrative for his crimes because I saw that if it had been any other villain on the show being caught committing crimes, everyone would have been against the idea of mercilessly and needlessly going too far to punish them and/or hurt them. In fact, they would even get enabled for being shitty, But when it’s Rumple caught committing the crime, the punishment that he deserves is having his true love needlessly and recklessly endangering his life by forcibly exiling him from his home forever with nothing but the clothes on his back? A break up was justified of Belle to give Rumple in 4x11. Being angry with him was justified. Using the real dagger to stop him from killing Hook when she caught him midway in the act red-handed was justified. Using the dagger to command him to stop being shady, and to tell her the truth would have been justified in that moment. However, recklessly endangering Rumple’s life by forcibly exiling him with nothing forever was completely fucked up and wrong. If that were really the only way to stop Rumple in that moment, I could justify Belle doing that, but the fact is that that dagger could be used to make him tell her the truth, and stop being shady. There was no need to forcibly exile Rumple at all. That was wildly ooc and needlessly cruel overkill for Belle to do that to Rumple. In real life, it would count as abuse of authority against a criminal as a law official. Belle needlessly and recklessly controlling, harming, and forcibly exiling Rumple with nothing forever when she didn’t need to go that far to stop him from being shady is a lot like situations in which police brutality sometimes happens against criminals in real life. Sure, they might not be good guys, but that doesn’t mean that police officer always needs to harm them, to beat them up, to forcibly exile them, to needlessly steal away their autonomy, and/or threaten their lives to get them to do it. That is illegal in real life. The fact that more people don’t seem to grasp the fact that some of the shit that Belle pulled on Rumple is comparable to police brutality against criminals in real life really baffles me. I feel like if Rumple were a female villain, and Belle was a male “hero” a lot more people would realize just how horrifying that needless and reckless controlling, harm, and forcible exile of Rumple’s with his dagger was. After bringing Rumple back, they made it so he could never win, no matter what he did, good or bad, and turned Belle into an exceedingly naive, exceedingly narrow-minded exceedingly self-righteous, and sometimes exceedingly cruel herocrite in regards to him. Even though she made some needlessly shitty choices that broke the law and hurt Rumple too, while willingly enabling and/or ignoring Hook, Regina, and Zelena’s mistreatment of her and Rumple for their own ends, she was more often than not framed as the “blameless victim” in her problems with Rumple’s post S4. I suppose she finally got that she had been pretty toxic to Rumple too in their relationship throughout S4-6A at the end of 6A when she said “What have we done to each other?” However, it came too late after too much damage had been done to both her and Rumple to forgive the writers for anymore for me to still even care about either of them in canon anymore. Besides, I’d stopped watching after S5, anyway, because the writing had just gotten too horrific, inconsistent, and nonsensical across the entire remaining main cast for me to still care about trying to forgive, justify, and invest in anymore, and I knew the characters would get derailed to become more insufferable and unrecognizable with no rhyme or reason until they “finally did the right thing” again at the very end, and got re-railed right back to the *same* character development arcs they had *already* achieved at the end of 3A (The New Neverland arc) in much more coherent, consistent, dynamic, relatable, and satisfying manners from S1-3A. This show lost its magic and never recovered it after the New Neverland arc, Neal’s death, Rumple’s resurrection, and Hook’s promotion to the new male lead at, at least in part, the expense of everyone and everything else that originally made this show good. Plus, Kitsowitz and these writers just clearly ran out of story to tell after the New Neverland arc, and kept trying to redo S1-3A over and over again, no matter how much they felt they had fuck up the characters, their stories, and retcon the rules to do it. As far as I’m concerned, the REAL canon OUAT ended with “Going Home.” 3B-S7 was a really shitty reboot that really only showed me and many other fans how to NOT completely fuck up potentially amazing, compelling, and dynamic characters and storylines in our far superior headcanons and canon-divergent/AU OUAT fanfics.

That being said, Kitsowitz and these writers really did Rumple and Belle dirty after they broke their own rules to resurrect him from the show’s best done two-and-a-half season redemption arc by killing off Neal and turning the entire narrative against him. They completely ruined Rumple, Belle, and every other character on the show with bad writing. Hence, why I finally quit watching after S5. The writing had just become awful for everyone, particularly Rumple and Belle. There were ways that they could have made Rumple’s return from the dead, the trauma he suffered, his subsequent regression, and ultimate redemption arc at the end more believable, consistent, in-character, and well-earned. However, Kitsowitz and the writers of this show lacked the skill to pull that off. After resurrecting Rumple, they tried to have his character be everything they wanted him to be for their plots, and it turned him into a convoluted mess of bad writing. They wanted him to be the redemptive anti-villain Woobie, and they wanted him to be their contrived scapegoat “big bad” foil character to prop up their other villains “redemption arcs.” You can’t have it both ways so inconsistently with ooc regressive characterization to fit the plot for cheap shock value, and expect to continue to keep character credibility and integrity in tact the whole way through. They also made Belle hypocritical, exceedingly naive, and self-righteous after S3, which was annoying.

Absolutely. She was so self righteous, always these rules and patronizing, always black or white. Unless it's in their own interest for Rumple to use magic. He says to her: So now you decide when the end justifies the means? 🙄 Robert also sees it as problematic to do seasons with 20 or more episodes (as US production companies like to do). As he put it, 'it would be very difficult to maintain excitement and dynamism over such a long period of time'. He likes the way British studios work, with an average of 8 to 10 episodes per season better. And it's certainly not easy for an actor to give his role the same credibility and depth all the time. The advantage of this series is that it is not told linearly, so there are always interesting stories from the past. But we've all experienced this: The longer a series runs, the more nonsensical, illogical and confused it becomes. The creators then somehow can't think of anything anymore...better to stop one season before the end 😉(would have been better here too). Incidentally, Robert's statements were general and did not refer to OUAT.
