Laughed when you said you gave up on the project for a while I'm in the middle of my first boat/restoration 16 ft 1985 side console Bonito bowrider not much info out there about this boat I stepped through the floor in my yard loading cooler on Fathers day 2020 about to go out with my little girl for a boat ride was going to be third time out in it when this happened guy sold it to me said it was well taking care of there was so much rot the stringers/transom had all turned to literal mud. The flotation foam was completely saturated with water. I have been putting every spare moment into the restoration of it because I want those water memories with my wife and kids. Not ashamed to say TODAY I was literally about to cry and give up on it but after watching this video of the end result I'm GOING OUTSIDE NOW to continue thanks for posting you helped out a dad who desperately needed it THANKS SO MUCH!

Excellent work Brook and Dennis! I did a similar restoration on my first bass boat, a "free" one about 25 years ago. My 3rd boat is a 22 sail boat that didn't need near as much work but I still get ribbed about spending too much time with my "32 year old mistress".

Thank a million for doing this restoration. I'm looking for a boat project. When I was a kid/teen my farther owned a small marina so I grew up with waterski type boats, so I know them well. Now that I am retired I want to a project like yours. You have inspired me. Larry Undlin, Federal Way, Wash.

Y'all did a great job on that boat, it looks really really noice!!! I would've strongly recommended replacing and filling all voids below deck with the 2 part polyurethane foam for positive floatation. It would displace any water in those voids should the old hull crack and it strengthens the hull and deck.

Another one! Heck yeah. New to your channel and I just watched the series on your other boat y’all restored. Now I just found this one and had to watch! I love it! I just picked up a late 90s model Carolina Skiff with a 75hp Johnson for next to nothing. Fixing to take on the project and get her ready for the summer fishing season! It’s only been sitting for 4 years and ran and was in great shape when parked. So I shouldn’t have a lot to do. Most people love ATVs and Motorcycles for toys and hobbies. Mine is boats lol. From Jon boats to big fishing boats. I love them all! I have to many anyways lol I can’t fish them all! Anyways I subbed to the channel 👍🏻

My family has been in the boat business for decades including refurbs. Back in the day, every boat had wood transoms preferably Marine plywood. Now everything that I know of here in Texas has changed to Composites with little to no wood. Yes time consuming and expensive...the challenge is Real...way to stick to it and Nice job

What I learned in a boat project, they are made in a series of steps layered into the final finished boat. This is a crazy project. Its should be done in a building or industrial yard. Don't use a lot of hardner and it will set slowly. You mucked up I would of foamed the floor .Way to much work for the boat value. You did a great job now pick better boats to refurbish on the side for sale.

Danger! Let me be clear. I am a 69 year old fiberglass fabricator, expert in all resins, epoxies and mouldings. I have done industrial repairs and boat repairs of all types! THIS IS NOT A SAFE WAY TO REGLASS A TRANSOM ON ANY BOAT...ESPECIALLY A TRANSOM THAT MUST TAKE THE WEIGHT, TWIST AND FORCE OF AN OUTBOARD ENGINE! This transom will crack and delaminate along the edges you see that frame the transom width and height! Especially along the boat bottom, 1 inch blunt edge. I have seen this EXACT type of repair on boats, where the engines ripped out completely and the outboard fell off, sinking the boat! There must be a reconstruction and overlap of all glass inside and outside the corners of this hull's rear, at least 3/8 inch thick on the outside and ...before...You place any plywood. Then bond both ply thicknesses with EPOXY RESIN. Then place the ply against the outside glass 3/8 layer. You want this plywood to bond to the glass...so quickly cover the plywood with one epoxy saturated layer of chopped strand matt that covers the full with and height of the Plywood. Press the plywood into place and clamp it tight to the outside glass. Squeezing out some of the epoxy, making sure your plywood is fully pressed flat across the entire transom. The plywood, even encapsulated in fiberglass, only adds stiffness to the span of the transom. The real strength is in your fiberglass layers!!You must put enough glass ..inside and outside to span the entire width and top of the transom, wrapping over and out to the outside glass for real strength. All glass inside and outside should wrap onto all sides and boat bottom existing fiberglass by at least 10 to 12 inches....3/8 inch outside, 3/8 inside. No Less....and more if it is a large offshore twin engine, wide beam boat. You take the time to tie all new glass to old glass by grinding back the old glass to a long taper. It is this taper, this long taper of 10 to 12 inches on a 18' to 20' boat that BONDS THE ENTIRE REPLACED TRANSOM TO THE BOAT HULL. Also...tying your Stringers into the Transom by glassing them in to the transom on the inside must be done for added bracing to STOP the push/pull flexing of the entire transom by the lever‐force of the upright outboard engine or engines! Take the time to study best practices of fiberglass "laminate lay‐ups" and alternating woven roven heavy glass matt with chopped strand matt in alternating layers to build out your 3/8 inch layers. Use a glass laminate type roller....get all the air bubbles out! Yes! You can do it yourself...but know how to reconstruct the STRENGTH you need!.

I just bought a very similar hull but it's almost 20 feet long. It has an interesting bolt on cab roof arrangement which I have never seen before. I'm trying to decide wether I should keep the roof and enjoy the protection of the cabin, or get rid of it and convert it to a centre console. I live in Tasmania, so the weather protection would be good but man, it would make an awesome centre console. What are your thoughts?

Could you provide some detail on the product you used for the final deck coating? I think you referred to it as "flow coat". I am refurbishing a 23 foot boat, and I need a treatment for the decking after it's fiberglassed. Seems like what you used would be perfect! Greg
