Worth mentioning that not every car car can use RFTs. You need to have a proper approved suspension to use them, as they are harder. I had no problems buying RFTs, but I bought them on the web.

What you say is what I experienced. My RFT got a nail in it on the reinforced outer edge. Had to replace it at a cost of $500. Waited 2 weeks for the tire to be ordered/delivered through BMW. In the interim, I had my RFT patched so I still could drive. Yes, there are pros and cons. Thanks for a great assessment.

Personally I think run-flat tyres are underrated because it can save you from a lot of bother if your tyre goes flat, but the ride quality is a little better on a non-run flat. Good video anyway Matt.

I disagree. It takes 10 - 20 minutes to fix a flat. I have not had a flat in 4 years. But I have to replace run-flats every 3 years and it takes several hours and is stupid expensive compared to regular tires.

Nice video. I agree with the harder ride of the RFT. But I guess they do resist more to curb shocks. In which case it can save some money to those less careful.

My '21 Mini Cooper came with run flats. It's a blast to drive, but it's so noisy and it rides like a tank, thanks to the tires. It seems that only 3 or 4 manufacturers make run flats. That alone says something about the product.

Always carry a spare wheel. If you have a puncture on a Sunday night in the middle of nowhere, no breakdown service will be able to find anywhere that has your tyre in stock. A space saver spare costs around £100 on Ebay & can get you out of trouble.

Hope lifes good for you, are you still in Russia? I was thinking fitting runflat on my leaf as it doesn't have a spare tyre. It does have tyre monitoring. What weight can they carry and max psi they can take?

Can I change one run flat tyre to non run flat tyre and carry space saver tyre on the car with its jack and other essentials? All other run flats on my car has a life left in them and would gradually change to non run flats once they start to wear off. Not sure if it is mandatory to change all 4 to non run flats.

Hey, I would strongly advice against just changing one of the tyres to a standard tyre. The issue is, the walls of the runflats are very stiff, and if you have a standard tyre, it will be more softer and totally upset the stability. I would personally try and sell the good tyres and just buy a set of 4. I hope this helped, in some way :)

Replacement Run Flats are terrible to buy and own. More expensive to buy, almost no choices, no warranties, no repairs. All of that to for a stiff ride and low miles per tire. So a simply nail hole could cost you $1,300 because you can't just replace one, you have to replace them all. Some one at the car manufactures really got a big bribe to shove these things down our throats.

I have a Mercedes class A and today i got to of the tires puncher and in Puerto Rico it cost 200 thasta the mos budget i got and on the Mercedes its like 300 something. So im looking if it’s worth keep buying it because of the road damage that we here suffer. Most of the punchers are on the side

Hey, if you use normal tyres then you would need to carry a spare wheel in the back. Is there space for one? The side walls are much thicker so in theory it should be harder to damage it. Saying that though, it will have a much harder ride

I love run flats. It is not safe in countries with high rate of robberies and hijackings to stop next to the road, also in country's where it is safe, it might still not be safe to pull off on the highway with cars speeding by you while trying to change a tyre.

Can one use run flats and non-run flats at the same time. Say I burst my run flat tyre and need to insert a new tyre, can that replacement be an ordinary one?

Hey, you should never mix rf and ordinary tyres. Apparently it will effect the way a car drives big time. I think it could be against the law in some countries, but I’m not too sure :)

Hey, for my need of the car, my location, the type of driving they do, they are perfect for me. If I was living in the UK and I didn't need to travel far each day, then I would consider normal tyres. To be honest, I am working out what to do myself :D

I really don't like this absession that manufacturers have these days with not putting a spare wheel in the boot. It doesn't matter if its a run flat or you've got a can of spray and a pump, they can't always get you home. I guess the reason people don't kick off about it when buying a new car is that they don't think about it until they're sat on the side of the motorway on a Friday night, 200 miles from home, with a hole in the sidewall from hitting something in the road.

Not sure yet :) Another issue I have being in Russia is, my Russian isn't the best, and id be scared to be stranded, not being to ask for help, while stranded on a massive road. There's a high chance id get a puncture here. I might even upgrade my wheels :)

Knobody should buy a run flat tire forcing manufacturers to stop manufacturing. I don’t want a crappy bumpy/ noisy ride. Lexus only installs these crap tires on their NX with no spare or jack. So I would never consider this car.

There are no pros.. RFT are garbage and hassle.. overpriced garbage, awful ride quality, crabbing in cold temps, non repairable by ANYONE and double the cost of traditional tires. Get a standard quality tire, learn how to change a tire and keep a spare!! Additionally shops need special machinery to remove the rf.. most shops don't stock replacements.

4:40 Awful tires. And, hard to get shops to switch them out to regular tires since there is no spare. Seems they were designed for people too afraid to stop and change a tire. Peace.
