In the original Broadway production the scene was played out as a parody of a revival meeting, (complete with faith healing). As it turns out, tambourines have long been used in revival meetings. This is simply a variation on the theme. I like it because it's dynamic, and it shows some originality.

I think I give the critics their due. I have watched a lot of college and high school performances so I know that these kids are a few cuts above the majority. As for needing work, well they're high school students - of course they need work! But let's keep it in perspective. These shows are not trying to mimic past Broadway productions - they attempt to look at things with a fresh eye. Considering how hard these kids have worked, I feel no obligation to post "drive-by" disses without rebuttal.

Yes, he's going for it, attending a Conservatory for musical performance.

I love the use of the tambourines; it's an original take on the song. Kind of like an Elvis movie. Too many of these shows are done in the style of a cover band - i.e. try to make it look and sound just like the original. The people running the program at the Academy don't feel that way, and I'm glad they don't.

@choir41 Fair enough. But keep in mind that this song follows a very spirited version of "SNUFF THE GIRL." Check out the video on this channel where the two numbers follow each other in real time to see what I mean.

Are you referring to the tambourines? Or the spare-looking stage set?

the lead male is amazing. ha.

As you can tell by the choreography, this is not an attempt to duplicate the Broadway production; it's a different interpretation. "Bobby" is not a Hunter Foster knock-off. Instead, he's more of a boy-next-door, Jack Armstrong type.

I agree with the first part, but I honestly don't understand the second.

Fantastic physical energy and dancing from the ensemble. I wish there would've been a little more vocal energy from them though.

I do props for my school. I sso act. we all kno that when u do crew and act you can never EVER just watch a show and enjoy. I honestly think it could have been much better if they added more charecter to the way they used their prop.
