I think the video is a metaphor for the cops and black folks constantly fighting. It’s been going on forever and they’re both tired, but in the end we both stay in the same place. Zach rip’d this one. Miles Davis line: I'm miles ahead of you, you can sip my bitches brew. Bitches Brew and Miles Ahead are both Miles Davis albums. Also, Call her a skin job and my honey dip will backflip for you You playin' God, your eye sockets she gon' rip into. Is a Blade Runner reference which was written by Phillip K. Dick. Which he references later with Philip AK Dickin you. Whole track is dope. Video is dope.

What I get from the ending of the music video and the video as a whole is that at the end of the day both parties are human and subject to the whims of powers greater than them. The video starts and they're already both exhausted from fighting for god knows how long. No reason is given for why they're fighting, they're just fighting because that's what they're supposed to do. Generations of resentment between law enforcement and the black community leads to an us vs them mentality which results in needless violence and overpolicing of majority black areas, which just continues the cycle. The people on top want the lower-middle class as divided as possible and the media reinforces these divisions. Whether it's race, sex, sexuality, gender identity or any number of other differences there is always some sort of popular narrative distracting the 99% from their real enemy, the people whose income has never stopped increasing even as the minimum wage's value has stagnated for half a century. Billionaires want us divided in as many ways as possible because if we put our differences aside, worked together and actually helped each other we could all be living better. Back in the day factory owners and other oligarchs encouraged race segregated unions, which were useless since they left a big chunk of the working class behind. White middle class feminists ignored the needs of their black and lower class sisters when they started seeing success, which just weakened the movement. Gay activists did the same with black queer people and trans people in general, despite key leaders in the Stonewall riots being both black and transgender. Even the Black Panthers (before they sucked) despite being over 60% female tended to keep women out of leadership roles and had many internal issues with misogyny, which is one of the reasons why despite being such a promising movement it ultimately fell apart. We need to accept that different groups have different problems and solutions but we also have a hell of a lot in common. As a white leftist I see systemic racism as an issue holding my black and brown comrades back even further, same with patriarchy and my female comrades or the current war against my queer comrades. Even if I'm not affected, even if I am privileged by these systems they actively harm my ultimate goal of equality and coalition building. We'll never see true progress until we stop fighting along dividing lines and unite against the people and systems that keep us divided. We don't have to choose between fixing one group's problems or another's, if we put our differences aside and put our collective energy towards progress we can make life better for everyone. Unfortunately hate runs deep and many people are willing to support politicians that will make their lives worse out of simple spite for x group. I went on a big ass tangent but that's what this video means to me, it represents the futility of the working class fighting each other over superficial differences that shouldn't have ever mattered in the first place. Cops defend property over people and thus are class traitors but at the end of the day they're playing the same game as the rest of us. They have bills to pay, their job just happens to encourage the worst aspects of human nature and gives them the legal right to enact it. Not to say there aren't good cops, just that the system itself is broken and built on maintaining the status quo.

My take is that they are actually lovers having a spat. That’s why the cop never pulls his gun and they’re just tussling like a lovers quarrel. They’re both in the bedroom like coming home from a hard days work. But that’s just me. Killer Mike said people can interpret the video differently.

More to the point, they both fought all day, and they don’t even want to. They both just want to get home and go to bed at the end of the day so they can wake up and do it again tomorrow. They’re both exhausted from fighting the same fight for so long.
@sparkleclover4 жыл бұрын

I'll say two things: good point about the tree in the forest. That said if the black man pulled a gun a killed the cop? Better be sure the tree made a damn sound. Second, the black man is, when he gets the opportunity, just trying to get home. It's an artistic take, but it doesn't escape those essential truths.

Yeah imagine if every time a cop wants to stretch someone, they have no backup and no gun. This video is dope because at the end of the day nobody dies, nobody has any backup and people are just people, exhausted. Yet still the black man gets chased all the way into his bedroom... just wants to be left alone.
@sunshynff3 жыл бұрын
What up fellas, I just caught your reaction to this, I agree with your summation of it and came to a similar conclusion when viewing it in the past. But Lem mentioned two things during the video that made me think, the fact the cop didn't have and/or use his gun making it a fair fight, but the big revelation that hit me was when Lem noticed no one was watching, no back up cops, no neighbors come out the house to see the ruckus. Now that says something a little to the disenfranchised black community and wanting to look hard and what not if there was a crowd, but it speaks volumes about the cops, and how many of them are out there that know deep down the systemic racism that occurs daily within their organization is a huge problem. That they go along with it out of fear of being ostracized from their fellow officers, that they are a victim of the culture that started before the kkk when the first "police" were groups of people legally allowed to hunt down runaway slaves. I'm not excusing those police that are a victim of that culture, but the video makes you think, if there wasn't that peer pressure, and culture, how many officers would treat EVERYONE they deal with as a peace officer fairly. Thanks fellas, for once again causing me to use my mind and think outside the box!✌️❤️️
