Excellent! I saved my battery from overheating in a TpLink M7200 router and was actually searching for a solution in the long term keeping in on 24/7. Much appreciated sir, thank you

Excellent. Renzi you are genius. And your explanation of the center two terminals are perfect. Basically they should cut off the charging when the battery is fully charged and should continue supply to the unit so that the wifi is on. This is possible only when the battery ( even if it is defective ) is fitted in the unit and the two central terminals are through. Hope my explanation is logical. Thanks a lot Renzi. I've a bloated battery and no new battery or router is available in the market , because of the lock down due to corona . I tried your suggestion. It solved my problem. Thanks a lot.

You are a GENIUS!!! Thank you so much for this, as you I had tried everything to make it work without battery because I need to leave it plugged in 24/7 too as it conects to my irrigation system. Does the battery become very hot that you know? Would you leave it in an unattended house for months at end? Many thanks again for sharing this!!!

I just replaced my battery 2 weeks ago after 2 years of using my Huawei e5573 for on average 16-18 hours a day. It got really hot so I'll now try the tape trick.

July 2020 update - Wifi stopped working, when battery finally went flat on its own. i.e 8 months no charging of battery. I removed the tape, and recharged it again, and it works again. somehow a dead battery seem to shut down the whole router, but its working again after recharg the battery. battery is not bloated but will see how long it lasts again without recharge, 8 months continuous charge with battery taped- July 2020 recharge battery to full - tape up again- will see how long it last this time continuous charge with battery taped up

Renzi, the trick works for me but why it keep turning off and i have to turn it on again?
@renziwijasur92733 жыл бұрын
@@kaylamusickev2281 It used to work fine for me a long time ago, but it did turn off by itself once, dont know if they have updated the sw to do something different. but it used to work for me before. If mains power supply fails or if you turn the switch of, it will go into standby, only works if connected to continuous stable mains supply on.

Huawei E5576 does not work this way, tried covering negative first, router starts but not visible in wifi section
@gamerg03 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure I have the same model and battery. I tried the tape trick (negative terminal), but I had issues then with getting the router to stay on; it would turn the wifi off after ~2 minutes, leaving just the battery light on. I'd have to the then turn the router back on but it wouldn't stay on continuously. I've just taken the tape off and the router seems to be staying on now (I tried changing router settings first but to no avail). The battery is so bloated though that the back case won't go on. I've had to tape the battery in place (and tape the cover on so I don't lose it, though there is a gap all the way around between the cover and the unit; not going to force the cover on). I've ordered a new battery so will have to keep operating the router in "bomb mode" until it arrives (Google "lithium battery explosion" if you're unaware of the risks). I am guessing the reason the tape trick didn't work for me is due to some difference in the firmware of my unit and that of the OP. Or it could be that the condition is of my battery is so much worse and that that somehow factors into what the device senses. I am sure it could be solved with more experimentation and research, but I have no time and a new $20 battery will solve the issue for now. Best of luck to everyone else.

By the way, thanks anyway for sharing the results of your investigation Renzi. It looks like it has helped some and taught us a little more about how modern tech works :)

My TP-Link M7000 without a battery would flash a red battery symbol. I tried this trick and it came up green, but wouldn't connect, but, I tried again, covering up the positive instead of the negative, and it all connects, I have WiFi, and the router is flashing a low battery warning. In the app it says the battery is at 16% and needs charging, when really it's full. I'll keep it on and see how it goes today, but if this works, then just to let people know that the TP-Link M7000 (and possibly other TP-Links) it works, but you have to cover tje positive, not the negative. If it gives any issues, I'll get the charge protection circuit off an old battery and make a dummy unit with a 5v to 4v stepdown and have it powered that way, essencially a never ending battery.

Curious, how is it working for you after 5 months? I'm going to try that with my Inseego/Novatel. Doesn't work on Inseego 8800l. Tried covering up - and just gives a splash screen and shuts off. Covered + and got no battery screen and shut off. Tried cover all combinations of the 4 contacts and not go. Guess I'm going to try stripping the board off a battery.
