As a Mythras player I will always hype any version of Runequest.

Without RQ6 the would be no Mythras. My gaming group play Mythras all the time. The Classic version really shows how good it was back then. Loved it. I did the Kickstarter.

You are right, the changes in the rules in Runequest are so much smaller than in the different editions of D&D. I would probably not play this earlier version, because I own the recent version. But it is just fun to have a glimpse into the past of this great game.

I loved Runequest. It got even better when it broke away from Glorantha & evolved into RQ3 and then Basic Roleplaying. There would be no Call of Cthulhu without it.

Aah D&D, Runequest then Traveller...Happy days!......Hold on.... I'm still playing 5E, RQ Glorantha & MGT2!!! 😁😄😀😍🤪

I remember my dad saying that when RuneQuest came out, his D&D group switched over and never looked back. I mostly had access to the edition from Avalon Hill (3rd?), which I used to raid for my BRP Magic World/Future World games. I think because I was reading the Avalon Hill stuff, and not much of the Glorantha related material, I never realized it was a Bronze Age Fantasy setting until I backed Chaosium's Kickstarter re-release of 2nd Ed. Overall, I find RuneQuest, this edition included, a bit crunchier than I prefer. Though I do love that always deadly combat. No wading through hoards of goblins without worrying about getting hurt.

Great review, I hadn’t realised that Runequest classic was a cleaned up reprint of 2nd edition.

The original Reston Press hardcover of RQ2 was my Holy Grail book for almost 30 years, ever since I browsed through a friends copy in high school. Like Jeff, most of my BRP chops come from Call of Cthulhu. I was thrilled to eventually find a reasonably-priced used copy! Then about 2 years later, this reprint appeared lol! I'm still happy to have both, though. It's a great example of a single, slim volume containing years worth of gaming fun - a hallmark of a lot of the great '80s games.

Well this takes me back! My first RPG and I still try and keep up with the world of Glorantha.

Great video, for someone who hasn't delved into RQ before but is interested, would you recommend them picking up the classic book or the current edition?

I'd highly recommend dipping your toes in with the excellent RuneQuest Starter Set for the latest edition. ~ Jeff

Mythras is the best set of rules! However I still like the current RQG for the lore. I still love RQ2 however, it's so iconic and is a great read!

My experience of Runequest involved losing both arms and a leg. I don't think we played it right! I certainly don't remember training or healing!

You might want to email them to double check; they sent me a copy and the website was indicating it was out of stock. ~ Jeff

I've got Roleplaying in Glorantha, so I don't think I can justify the expense of Classic given how poor the art and page layouts are. Even given its design intent, a nostalgic old-school game, the cover was the only artwork shown that I thought belonged in a hardcover.
