In college our X & Z had what we called “5 to 9” meaning if they had soft corners they ran comebacks and hard corners meant numbers fade...our boundary slot ran the “adjuster” so the route adjusted off of what the safety structure was like, and the field slot had “auto hash” to allow the boundary slot to have the whole middle to work if he needed

I installed my first part of our playbook. It was mesh, y stick and screens. I never thought about adding verts. I’m in a 7 on 7 league and I’m a air raid rookie. I wouldn’t know how to teach it to my quarterback in a simple way.

Coach, are u saying that you don’t believe the backers will adjust pre snap to the alignment of the Aces?

Coach, So if we allow all receivers to quick hitch (with let’s say 7 yards of cushion), then against a cover 3, are we throwing hitch to the X every time? Then, in cover 3, when would we ever get to hitting the seams (which is what we really want)?

What exactly is wrong with 7 yards per play?

If you’re running all hitch, throw to the softest corner, your best match up or all things being equal, the shortest throw. Hitches may not be the best one called but when taking advantage of off coverage. It’s a stationary throw that is relatively short, which should equal a high percentage completion. If you’re throwing it on the outside, a certain percentage of these completions will result in missed tackles. If you have off coverage, you should be able to complete 70 maybe 80% of these passes for 5 to 7 yards. a certain percentage of these completions will be missed tackles that will get you more than 7 yards. I know Joe Gibbs and Brian Billick we’re big proponents of the hitch route, particularly on the backside of other route concepts.

I've had the same thoughts on running verticals and using sort of tags with it in 2x2 formations or Ace
