How did you get 45° bearing on alfa rock using hand held compass when you are Heading 080°? it doesn't make sense for me.

Alfa Rock is not on the boat's heading, it is more to the north, hence the bearing of 45 deg.

Don't get it. Sailing coastel waters there is always a current and some leeway. Why this factors are not included. Thanks for the video.

Depends of sea. For example the Baltic sea is free from currents. But anyway leeway and cuurent callculations can be added.

@@skippercheck_net Yes! Humans also don't necessary steer in a straight line. So this method is going to yield an approximate position.

The following problem came in the authority test in Latakia port in Syria: A ship steering 235° gyro, Speed 15 kn, gyro error= 2° low Under effect of bothe northerly wind , causing leeway 7°, and a current , set 185° and rate 3kn. At 1600 , Dungeness light house distance off by Radar 8 miles. At 1640 , Royal Sovereign light house distance off 11 miles. Fix the position at 1600 & 1640? Can you please , kind Sir, show us how to solve this sailing problem?! Thank you in advance

There seems to be a bit of confusion here. They mention the "compass bearing" , but it looks like a handheld compass was used, so no deviation correction is needed; The reading is a magnetic bearing. You only need to correct for variation to obtain true bearing (adding E or substracting W variation)

C (Compass Bearıng) D(Deviation Error) M (Mangetic) V(Variation Error) T (True Bearing)... when you bearıng on compass you must count errors which is E and W .... ıf you wanna go trough True Bearing you need to subtraction W errors plus E errors... in the opposite time you need subtraction E errors , plus W errors..

60 is 60 min. ship speed is 8 kts that mean 1 hour(60 min) ship moves for 8 nm. so 30 min, the ship'll move for (8nm x30 min)/60 min = 4 nm

Stas asavoidu , I think he was just showing how to work it out, then next part of it would have been set and drift. Did that help ? Also what you said is right.
