I am a retired HGV driver. I was an owner driver for three of my 40+ years. A lot of my back loads were fertiliser from the northeast to farms all over England. I do not miss being axle deep in mud, that's for sure. Keep up the good work. British truck drivers are among the hardest workers we have. I can't see many of our younger generation wanting to do 15-hour days.

You have stated that you are paid by the hour. A friend of mine also works for a haulage company in the Harlow Essex area. I mentioned on a previous video that because of the shortage of drivers he has had substantial salary increase. Maybe you should talk to Wain Transport about paying you a fixed salary as that would encourage the drivers to remain more loyal and less likely to move to another company for better conditions. Good luck. As an ex shop steward I firmly believe that a good boss should look after his employees and avoid trouble by paying them well and looking after them.

All comments posted are meant with no disrespect to yourself Gemma or other drivers, no matter the sex, male or female! There are only two flavours available despite what MSM tries to tell you! Discern!.... Sooooo! ...... why do all you guys and girls still do 6 and 5?... Me? coming on 40 years in this job. I dont want to seem as if I am blowing my own trumpet but I have done it ALL! Roping/sheetting, fridges, tippers, containers, bulk powder tankers, european ad nauseum...... What I dont get, and Gemma is a good example of what we have to live with for just doing our job, earning a crust, keep a roof over our head... more of which later! So, my poimt As a male away from home doing my job like Gemma does etc it is sooo nice to see that it transpires that in a "pertneship" it is hard to have a "long distance relationship" We are devoted to our job, we love our job and "some" of us do it to the best of our abilities,we spend a whole week away, living in a cab, cooking, eating, survivng in a cab to keep a roof over our head that we only get to enjoy once or twice a weekend? That to me is sacrifice! I did 3 weeks away european and 3 days home at the 3 week end, a place I was paying for but never in for by those 3 d days? Yaaaa! Again, sorry point is.... It's not just guys that get it in the neck when they CANT get home in time and the living with that, so its nice to see it from a womans perspective, you get the same attitude many of us have had for years lol At the end of the day, Im getting old, cant be bothered with 6 and 5 tramping, I have for the last few years been working 4 on 4 off, fantastic! Semirtirement lol and back to my original point........ 4 on 4 off vs 6 and 5 pw ...... go figure what suits you most financially but most important of all.... personally Love to all who read this!

I’ve recently starting watching these and I have to say they’re really good! It gives a great insight into being a truck driver in the uk. I am amazed at Gemma’s skill in parking the arctic and negotiating very narrow spaces. She is really a professional. I also worry about the dust she breathes when sweeping and tipping, and the tough conditions that are part of being hourly paid.

Long hours, Long Days, Been There Done That, So Many times. People think that driving an HGV driving is easy, well it's not that easy. Thanks Jemma for putting these videos out and giving other people some in-site as how life on the road really is. Also when you mentioned that the lay-bays for the trucks are getting taken out and not replaced, This is an important thing to keep mentioning that there needs to be safe places for HGV's to park up. A lot of people are not clued up on driving hours and what is law and what one has to do to be in your driving hours. Again you pass all this information in every video that you put out. Well don Lass Respect,... From someone who's been driving from before Tacho' came out. First truck I drove was a Bedford TK ... for Alpine Pop.
