Fun fact in the manga Ryosuke and Keiuske's cousin is featured in the manga (her name is Tsugumi), there was a lot more character development in the manga especially with the Takahashi's, like one scene where Ryosuke picks her up from school and he is also acting as her tutor. Tsugumi tells Ryosuke that her summer classes aren't going well, and jokes that she must have the same dumb genes as Keisuke. 💀

To be fair, it was Iketani's fault for letting her crush on Ryosuke get to him way too much. Mako had already implicitly suggested that she chose him and he let his own personal hang-ups as a casual street racer get in the way.... Poor guy, but that's what he gets for choosing to wallow in misery instead of seizing the chance he was given. :( Another great reaction, by the way. I could feel your pain at Mako's departure. >_

That's a fact man. I guess sometimes our worst enemy is our own mind. Mako made everything easy for him from the beginning and he continued to doubt his own worth. Iketani mucking up his rendezvous with Mako is arguably the saddest moment of the entire series. However, I agree with what you said -- I never understood why Iketani just gave up; he could've either drove to Usui Pass, or found a pay phone and called her (he had her number, after all). Mako was obviously very much in love with Iketani and would've understood if he came clean with her about why he was late (though he should've confronted her about Ryosuke at the pool). I genuinely think that had Iketani come through, the two of them would've been together for life. They seemed like such a great match.

In Extra Stage, Mako thinks Iketani dumped her because Iketani didnt show up and didnt even call her after that. Sayuki said that Mako should call her. Iketani is mad stupid for that. Mako is kinda stupid too for not calling him after that and ask him what happened.

@@jeppyjep I can understand Mako not calling Iketani; she was upset & angry with him because she thinks he dumped her; calling him under those circumstances might come off as a bit clingy and/or overly-attached. IF Iketani had dumped her, imagine how it would look if she called him up afterwards? Mako probably feared getting hurt further, expecting Iketani to say something like, "Yo, take a hint." Iketani on the other hand, gets the Moron of Decade award.

Tremendous episode that I had forgotten about! About the episode itself, I must say that I understand Iketani very well. Sometimes, when we are in love and insecure, we tend to act like idiots. So, I can understand that in Iketani's poor mind, she sees a woman like Mako on the same level as Ryosuke Takahashi, that is, someone of high social status, a celebrity. When in reality, Mako herself sees Ryosuke in another social level as well. And well, when that happens, we all need a Yuichi to wake us up from our own stupidity. PS: I take this opportunity to remind you again, that in the opening of the second season of Intial D, there is a minor spoiler, so you might want to not watch images of the opening.
