Legend says that after 3dfx died, those employees were hired by NVIDIA, they made the FX series as vengeance against Nvidia, then Nvidia fired them all, and they all went to ATI, then ATI died, and they went to make graphics for ARM SOCs, that's why smartphone gpus suck now...

Great to see you my friend. UT2004 such an amazing game and you got some really good performance going above the minimum requirements. Always be nostalgic

I am 24 however, watching early videos on KZbin, missing the 2000s, I decided to purchase the Unreal Anthology on Ebay. This is gaming history Epic games stole from us.

That is a great game! Superb stuff! Really want to build a retro kinda PC as have not built any PC since a i5 2500k / r9 280x setup a number of years ago! Used to have 19 pcs & 2 laptops at one point in the mid 2000’s so really miss building / overclocking pc’s!! Prices of retro hardware seem to have skyrocketed lately! Saw abit nf7-s on eBay for 260 quid!!

I can testify that P3 @ 1GHz with 512MB RAM coupled with a GeForce 4200 Ti 128MB VRAM was a freaking monster combo that could handle almost every game. Later in 2003, I just bought a P3 @ 1.4GHz, followed by a P4 (Northwood) @ 2.8GHz, while keeping the same amount of RAM and the same beast of a GPU. GeForce 4200Ti served me all the way from November 2002 to September 2010. I replaced her with an ATI Radeon 4650 1GB as this was the last AGP video card available on the market in Bulgaria. This same P4 2.8 GHz is now upgraded to 2GB of DDR400 RAM with the delicious HD4650 AGP beast. At peak performance, the CPU keeps 80C degrees, the GPU 75C to 80C degrees, while the power consumption from the power socket is below 140W. I still use that workhorse for retro gaming. The usual question is: But can it run Crysis? Yes, but at very low framerate. However, who cares if you never play AAA games after 2006. Playing Civilization 5 from 2010 is possible. Playing 4X games is possible. Playing Colin McRae 4, Hard Truck 2, Cabella Off-Road 3, Battlefield 1942, RTCW and all Westwood goodies is possible. That was all that mattered in my late-highschool and university years. Great video! Keep the nostalgia ongoing. 🎉 ❤ Today, we have a lot of high-tech PC equipment but no lan-party fun. A lot of VR but no friends and free time for multiplayer.

Hey, you should try Tribes 2 on your retro machines as well :) It's another retro, very popular FPS from that era (2001). It has bots too (up to 64!) so that it can act as a nice benchmark. Very similar to Unreal Tournament 2004 since there is a variety of weapons, vehicles, and it's very speedy.

UT 2004 is _extremely_ CPU dependendent. Just like Halo CE for PC. Every extra core, Mhz, Cache will make a noticeble difference ;).

@ Nice. I am waiting for someone to compare fps in original versions of games in Windows XP plain, Windows XP SP 1 and SP2. However, SP2 shouldn’t be a huge performance eater. SP 3 on the other hand….I’ve heard that a large amount of ram solves performance issues in SP3, but 128MB, forget about it. 😅but then also more than 256MB is not good for P3

be very worried, those are the ones that don't last. In my experience when the gpu never pass 70C degrees, they will last forever, not the gpu ic chip, but the components around it.

Geek, you should excuse me for the monitor part, I'm not using old hardware on this front, got a Proart 1920x1200 75hz, one can do 1600x1200, it's so crisp I could cry (better than CRT, I dare being a heretic). You should treat yourself with one too, if it's within reach where you live.

OMFG I got a Coppermine Celeron that is pretty much a Pentium III at 1000mhz, the only difference being the L2 cache. Looking forward to pair it with an Nvidia FX 5200 from AliExpress.

To be honest a 1 GHz P3 is way slower for an FX 5200, BUT, the beautiful thing is that not everything needs to make sense, do whatever your heart desires :D

@@MidnightGeek99 Indeed, it would be overkill, however, I thought it could be useful since the max RAM I can install is 128 MB, but after the end of the video I might as well go for a GeForce 2 or 3 series.
