The #history of Makrinitsa is lost in the depths of the centuries. It was founded in the 13th century and soon experienced days of great prosperity and wealth.
The rich mansions, the orthodox churches and the neat cobbled streets are an open air museum that takes you to romantic and carefree times of the past.
The view to the #Pagasitic Gulf and the city of #Volos is unrestricted and breathtaking. Besides, it is no coincidence that Makrinitsa is characterized as the balcony of Pelion.
Fresh air everywhere, serene images that calm the eyes and the soul of the visitor. Wonderful scents from the maple leaves, the woods and delicious food.
Explore the alleys of the village. The ornate shops with local handicrafts, herbs, sweets and souvenirs are followed by the cafes that offer unparalleled views and the impressive guesthouses and mansions that combine the Greek tradition with all the modern comforts.
In the center of Makrinitsa dominates the main square. A Vibrant and harmonious meeting place of locals and visitors.

Pelion is not another popular tourist destination. It is a special experience that will capture your five senses, in a journey of well-being, relaxation and mental satisfaction.
Do not hesitate to drink crystal clear water from the springs of Pelion, to walk the cobblestone paths of the Centaurs, to smell the aroma of flowers, to taste the locally produced fruits, to wander in the forest filling your batteries with energy, to do sports, to leave behind all the stress, sorrow and thoughts…
The land of Pelion will reward you richly, as long as you are surrendered to its sweet melody. Paradise has a name and is located in Greece!
Makrinitsa, called the 'balcony' of Mt. Pelion, Magnesia, Greece, for it's amazing views. Located only 10 km by winding mountain road, north-east of Volos it is one of the most easily accessed of Pelions 24 villages. One of the most characteristic traditional settlements on mount Pelion. It is filled with mansions and houses from the Ottoman era that look like hanging ornaments on the green mountain side and are colorful. Many of these have been restored into restaurants and guesthouses. It sits on a slope of the Pelion range and another mountaintop to the east with forests, at a height of about 500 m (1,600 ft) above sea level. The square with age-old trees lends a panoramic view of Volos and the Pagasetic Gulf. In one of the traditional coffee houses there is a big fresco by the 20th century naïve folkloristic artist Theofilos. The picturesque cobbled paths of Makrinitsa are scattered with traditional water fountains. Makrynitsa, with a population of about 900 people, has a school, a lyceum, a church, a post office and a square (plateia) with tall trees.
Fortunately Makrinitsa is not very large, and you can easily orient yourself by the pedestrian main street, on which you will find the town square and the village church.
The village of Makrinitsa is an excellent starting point for exploring the wider Pelion area, staying central while being simultaneously discretely distant; it offers a green and fresh landscape, full of bright shadows in late summer, access to beaches on the gulf and Aegean-side of Pelion, cosmopolitan yet far from the stress of the city

Πιθανότατα ο επίγειος παράδεισος στην Ελλάδα. Ήξεραν πολύ καλά οι Κένταυροι που θα κατοικήσουν. Δεν το επέλεξαν τυχαία. Τέτοιο μαγικό βουνό δεν υπάρχει πουθενά αλλού.

What a beautiful place, would love to go there. My favorite places in Greece are Aghios Nicolaos, Crete and Fira, Santorini. Both are beautiful and peaceful places rich in culture.

@@TourismosTravelGuru Καλή δύναμη σε όλους εκεί. Με πόνεσε η καταστροφή τόσο ωραίων τόπων εκεί. Δύο μέρη ονειρευόμουν νέος να διαλέξω για να ζήσω από κάποια ηλικία και μετά. Πρώτη επιλογή ήταν το Πήλιο και δεύτερη η Λευκάδα. Διάλεξα την δεύτερη για πολύ ειδικό και ξεχωριστό λόγο από τα αρχικά κριτήρια.
