Segway's formula: 1. Make good looking machine 2. Underpower good looking machine 3. Price it as though they didn't underpower good looking machine
@MeTinY-ib8zx4 күн бұрын
I think they got caught up with the new regulations. If you’ve been following up with them , you’d notice both the Xafari & the XYBER were due for release last year 2024 not this year. So , I have reasons to believe the new regulations messed up with their initial plans. My local e-bike dealer who sells them told me they had hard time shipping it into California due to the unclassified nature of the bike. They had to put a class 2/3 sticker on the box in order to go through.
@RunPlayBack4 күн бұрын
Haha, I see where you're coming from! Segway definitely leans more into the tech and design side than raw performance here. The Xyber appears to be built for power, but I think they’re aiming for a different kind of rider with this one or at least appealing somewhat to the laws where they'll be sold. That said, I’d love to see them push the power envelope in future versions!
@notsoanonymous24584 күн бұрын
@@MeTinY-ib8zx I don’t doubt that the apparent crackdown on regulations had some effect on the Xyber however Segway’s formula has been in place for years. Their scooters have always had inferior performance compared to the competition: Wolf King GT, Burn E Max, some Dualtron models yet cost just as much.

It definitely is but gahdamn the power does not match the style. For 3k we should not have to modify it to 60v or 72v. It should at the very least should have been 52v like wtf....if you are going to modify a bike the rev1 DRT is a better option than this even stock vs stock in my opinion.

@@MeTinY-ib8zx Hey you never know! But to be fair, Segway has put out some solid off-road machines before like the X260 and X160, so it’s not like they don’t have a history of endorsing off-road power. If they do drop a second version, it’ll be interesting to see if they lean more into street-legal tuning or find a way to amp up the performance as a proper moped or lightweight motorcycle. @RunPlayBack4 күн бұрын
The Xyber definitely nails the looks, but yeah, at 48V, it's not going to be everyone's first pick for performance. The Revv1 DRT at 52V and a lower price tag definitely makes it a solid contender. It goes 70mph and has three 74v 27ah battery packs although comes with 2 as standard, the third is an optional upgrade and you also lose the under seat space with it. Worth it though as i can easily travel 100 miles if i keep the speed down to 45mph. The bikes look great as well although they aren't available here in the eu as they aren't road legal.
@RunPlayBack4 күн бұрын

@RunPlayBack3 күн бұрын

Can’t imagine them getting their money back on this one My guess is upgrading the battery to anything above 48v is difficult because of all the programming features and controller ?? Maybe not. Maybe it’s capable of 48-72v but if not this thing is just pointlessly expensive and with the unnecessary 3000w motor that makes it illegal in most places for what? They could have put a 1500w geared hub on there and saved a ton of money and weight Seems insane Thanks for the reviews
@RunPlayBack4 күн бұрын
Yeah, it’s definitely an interesting choice by Segway. With all the smart features packed in, I wouldn’t be surprised if upgrading beyond 48v is tricky, especially if the system is locked down. But I haven't torn apart the controller to figure it out. A higher voltage option would’ve made a lot of sense for riders looking for more power. That said, the 3,000w motor does feel like it’s being held back by the voltage, so I get where you’re coming from. We do have a second battery arriving shortly so we'll see how much unlocking the motor to 6,000w will effect torque/top speed. Appreciate you checking out the review and stay tuned for the follow up!

@ I look forward to seeing the next video for sure. I’ve been waiting to see what this bike was all about and you have the first video up I think. I thought maybe the 3000w choice was incase someone wanted to go up in voltage not knowing that it’s basically a smart bike and I’ve seen a couple that people tried to crack open and they were just too hard to really work on do to the whole system needing to work together the way it was setup but maybe the second battery will make it all worth while. I don’t remember if you guys mentioned a price but think I saw it around $3000 with the one battery It looks great but more for a real road bike vs the pedals. I’m sure it will be pretty heavy with two batteries Anyway thanks again. @RunPlayBack4 күн бұрын
@@lukenorton8243 Yeah, the 3000W motor had me wondering the same thing at first, but with how locked-in the system is, it seems like Segway really wanted a fully integrated setup rather than something easily modded. And yeah, it’s around $3K with one battery, which puts it in an interesting spot compared to other options. Sorry to hear about your bike getting stolen, man-that’s brutal. Sorry no rush responding Just if you have any ideas of what’s good out there. So many options I don’t know where to start Would like something that notifies my phone even if the bike is moved Anyway no rush. Theft a huge problem where I am and if you haven’t yet this would be a great video
@RunPlayBack3 күн бұрын
@@lukenorton8243 That’s a solid way to look at it-losing a bike sucks, but the fact that it got you into modding is a silver lining. And yeah, once you realize how much shops charge for controller installs, it definitely pushes you to learn. As for GPS trackers, I’ve tested a few but haven’t done a deep dive on them yet. There are a lot of options, but ideally, you’d want something with real-time tracking, geofencing, and instant alerts if the bike moves. Apple AirTags work well for basic tracking, but for something more theft-proof, there are dedicated GPS trackers like the Invoxia or LandAirSea 54 that are solid choices. A full video on bike security and tracking could definitely be worth doing-bike theft is getting worse everywhere. Appreciate the suggestion, and I’ll keep that in mind for future content!

BUT the weight comes from the fully cast aluminum frame, dual battery capability, 400 lb weight capacity, and all the built-in tech like Airlock, GPS tracking, and the smart display. It’s less of a lightweight power bike and more of a feature-packed, futuristic commuter. If raw power is the goal, there are lighter bikes with more torque, but for a smart, ultra-secure ride, the Xyber has its lane among everything that's out right now.

Acceleration is a thrill and of you pay 3k+ it would be nice to have. I think this is a two passenger bike which is good. I don’t agree with putting a smaller brake on the highest rotational mass just weird. The big tires are not a good idea as with the weight and rotational mass it is a chore at low speeds I remember the onyx rcr felt this way it was somewhat scary to make those 90 degree turns on the pedestrian bridges. The weight might be lower down on this one though but with two batteries Lol it will be no fun to ride.
@RunPlayBack5 күн бұрын
Yeah, I get where you're coming from! The acceleration could definitely use more punch for the price, and I agree-having a smaller rear brake on a bike with this kind of rotational mass is an interesting choice. The big tires do add stability, but at low speeds, they can make tight turns feel a bit clunky-totally see the Onyx RCR comparison but I'd say the Xyber has a better center of gravity (I've owned the RCR and CTY2). @aeskellion3 күн бұрын
@ yeah, I’m doubtful though. If it’s sold in Europe it would have to respect the EPAC standard which means 250 W maximum power and 25 km/h maximum speed which equates to about 18 mph. They would have to go with a different motor design because the gearless motors lack the torque necessary to be comfortable at low speed so they would have to go with a gear motor and I’m pretty sure they will not want to segment their product like that with a different SKU for the European market. I’m pretty sure you can’t import it either because if it’s not homologated it’ll be refused at customs.
@RunPlayBack3 күн бұрын
@ Yeah, that’s a tough one. The EPAC standard definitely makes it tricky for high-power eBikes like this to make it over to Europe without major changes. A geared motor version could be interesting, but like you said, Segway might not want to rework the whole design just for a different market. Maybe if enough people show interest, they’ll consider a Euro-friendly version down the line. Either way, appreciate the insight-it’s always cool to hear global perspectives on these bikes!

I currently own the stark alfa and the quality isn't somthing the bike u showed couldn't achieve.
@RunPlayBack2 күн бұрын
@ Yeah, I hear you on that-seeing a strap on a high-tech ebike might seem a little out of place. But honestly, it wasn’t much of an issue in practice. The battery enclosure has mounting plates with grooves that connect with the frame enclosure, and the lock keeps it in place too. I’d say the strap is more of an extra layer of security. Like the battery wouldn't necessarily fall out of the bike without it on. But it definitely would rattle. Curious-if you were designing it, how would you improve the setup?
@Mr_Haroman2 күн бұрын
@RunPlayBack a( T ) precision keyway at the top n bottom of the battery to prevent any movement when installing, it would slide into place from one side of the frame. As for locking in place I'd use a similar style of latch as the NES cartridge locks into place uses . Due to the keyway the lock is more superficial. Simple design but the keyway are expensive to manufacture, this bike has probably 10+ companies involved in part sourcing to build this. The mark up is not worth the product

Why you yelling bro lol? j/k I hear you! The Xyber isn’t built for crazy top speed, but it’s got a smooth ride, solid range, and a ton of smart features. If you’re after raw speed, there are definitely other options out there BUT I can appreciate a company doing something new instead of the same old designs over and over again. I'm interested to see what they do next.

@@MCVAMP666 Yeah Arizona roads can definitely be sketch. We were actually in Phoenix a few months ago but riding around the canal bike lane which was where I think this thing would fit in. Yeah riding this in 30mph+ street traffic would definitely get some drivers to become aggressive. But where I live, like a small college town with protected bike lanes, drivers give a little more patience to bikes, not all the time but usually. Ride safe brother!
