That bit at 49 miles when you said you were bored and didn't have anyone to talk to - I was the next person just a few yards behind you; you walked past me on the climb up onto that road/track. Would have been well up for a chat as I was feeling much the same!! You ended up beating me by a good hour anyway. Superbly paced run; thanks for sharing your journey. Brings back some great memories. Will make a point of saying hi next year if I get into UTMB (and presuming you'll do likewise).

Top work Jamil! You've got me considering TDS for next year. Great to catch you in Chamonix, see you on the trails in the future I'm sure!
Jamil, I really enjoy your race videos! The mile-by-mile check-ins makes it feel like we are racing with you. This and your Hardrock '17 should be required films for those trailers aspiring to run the toughest mountain ultras.

excellent effort, and a beautiful video combining the amazing scenery with the mental and physical grit you showed to get through it. it always feels so anticlimatic getting to the finish line and there's nobody there, no atmosphere, no nothing. i'm always so grateful for the people that hang out there at all hours to give some props to the finishers.

This was simply amazing to watch. Amazing job! Beautiful setting for a race. Wow. Can't wait for your vlog update as to your review of how that race was for you and what those blank 20+ miles were for you. It so helps to see how you race ultras. That you walk at times and have highs and lows and your mindset and what you eat and everything. Gives me hope that what I do is ok!!!

Fantastic film, thankyou. I completed this race in 2016 in very hot temps, the climb out of Bourg St Maurice was hell. Unfortunately, I ran out of time this year at Gittaz due mainly to getting to the start too late and losing 45 minutes by the second climb stood in a non moving line (darn those toilet queues!). Will be back next year hopefully as the gilet was so much better than the one I have from 2016!

Amazing that for once you're filming a race that.....i know more or less by heart....:-). As usual, Jamil, your comments are awesome, it's great to see the race through your eyes. It's also amazing to see the way you handled that race, starting very slowly, very far (I remember I followed your position at the 3 or 4 first checkpoints.....).....and that you finish like a rocket (man, 22h30). I definitely *love* the moment where you compare the TDS course to Hardrock with the Passeur de Pralognan compared to Handies Peak....;-). Please come back again to France, we have so many great races *outside* UTMB week...;-). Keep up with the good job!

Christian Perrier What others do you recommend?
@christianperrier7 жыл бұрын
A non exhauustive list would be : - Echappée Belle : 144km, 11,000meters positive climb, one way all across the "Belledonne" range in French Alps. Highly technical, the best runners complete it in about 25 hours. Late August (often same week-end than UTMB). Intermediate atmosphere between huge things such as UTMB and very intimate races - Ultra Tour du Beaufortain, 100km, 6500meters. More intimate and "familial". Still quite though. 3rd week-end of July (1 week after HardRock, most of the time) - La Montagn'hard, usually 100km/7000m but the 10th edition in 2018 will probably feature some "special" extras (up to 100miles maybe). Takes place in Les Contamines neighbourhood which you know from UTMB or TDS, but explores places where those two don't go. First week-nd of July. - UT4M (Ultra Tour des 4 Massifs), 100miler (with 10,500meters climb) around the city of Grenoble (souther than Chamonix area, then). Explores the four different moutain ranges around Grenoble. Usually one week before UTMB. If you want to see another moutain range, try the Pyrénées range (between Spain and France). Often very wild, more than Alps. I'd recommend, there the Grand Raid des Pyrénées (features a 120km as well as a 100miler that was turned to 220km this year). Usually one week before UTMB. And, even thougher and wilder, The Andorra Ultra Trail, where the 100miler (Ronda Del Cims) is considered to be one of the most difficult in Europe (this time, 13,500meters climb). First or second week-end of July. And, well, not in France, but you may want to try Tor des Géants in Val d'Aosta (starts in Courmayeur.....you know about the place..;-) )

And a good friend of mine (Thierry) just behind you at Col Chavanne (09:36-10:00) with the red "Kikourou" hat. He says he saw you many times before you accelerated in the "freaking climb after 50k" (so your devastated face during that climb is just a fake, haha). He nearly catched up when you had hard time between Les Contamines and Les Houches (you didn't film at all at this moment, it seems..;-) )

loved the video....made me feel as if I was in the race. Loved it when you went through that town...you could have done some window shopping along the way. Curious...a couple of time you mentioned that runners near you were not to good at downhill running and again you said that on one of the later downhills you past a few runners. Do you find that European runners are not very good at downhill running? ....if so this could be one reason they seem to have some problems running here in the U S A....ie...Western is a brutal downhill race. Again...loved the vid...keep them coming and I hope to maybe see you at Silverton 1000
@KasparsPurmalietis7 жыл бұрын
It is not connected with European vs non-European. From first 100 finishers, maybe 5 were not Europeans :) The ones living in this or similar areas did well in this one. The ones, who live in flatter places did pretty bad, like me :) Lot of French were passing me in good speed on downhills. And the podium was also all 3 French.
