I truly believe the best era of aviation was from 1970-late 2000s. Many airlines and iconic aircraft are gone. I’m so happy whenever new archive footage is released. I’m glad I got to experience some of this when I was young.

you mean deadliest era of aviation lol. These times are not missed
@Delta_NWAB747fan
@Delta_NWAB747fan 3 ай бұрын
@@Laxa30 Of course you have to nitpick at my comment, you’re the third person this week to complain about a perfectly normal comment of mine. The time before the 70s was incredibly deadly as well and we don’t have a lack of plane crashes and incidents today even though less. So stop being a Debbie Downer, I said what was great about that era and you just had to look at the negatives. That’s when traveling became more affordable, flying longer and faster than ever before, the first wide body aircraft were introduced, Concorde was in service for most of that period providing supersonic transport, and many airlines and aircraft that got us where we are today are gone. So crashes discredit the accomplishments from that era? That logic makes perfect sense… Edit: Grammar & wanted to add the 70s & 80s was definitely deadly, but that generation advanced very quickly with tech and was racing to get more advanced in air travel. As awful as it sounds, crashes were expected as flaws were going to happen. Still tragic and those accidents should’ve never happened. With that, it’s understandable that aircraft like the DC-10 had a incredibly safer career, as most accidents after United Flight 232 were not due to the aircraft. Only issue was freighters bouncing after landing, which the MD-11 had. Anything from weather, maintenance, to bombings were responsible for the overwhelming majority of accidents. We wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for the iconic aircraft of that time period.

I think this is iconic era of everything - music, movies, social life, family etc. 9/11 was the break of that era

Yep I totally agree, for me it was the 70s and 80s. I remember being in LAX and sitting at a gate and watching a Delta L1011 pull right up to the window, it was so cool. I also remember when my family and I would drop people off at the Honolulu airport and we could walk to the gate with them and see them off right as they were getting read y to board, man were those some fun times. The best times in airline aviation for me for sure.

In 1983 I left for college and it was my first time leaving Hawaii. I was boarding a United 747 and I looked at that huge nose cone and was in awe that I was getting on one because as a kid that was always my favorite aircraft. Then it taxied to the reef runway and when I felt those thrusters kick in and that power, wow what a rush that was for me, it was just a total thrill.

No more L-1011’s, no more 727’s, no more DC-8’s, no more DC-10’s; MD-80’s, A300’s and 737-200’s are all but gone. No more TWA, America West, Continental, North West, US Air, AirTran, etc.. crazy, but at 49, 24 years ago seems like yesterday. Hard to believe all those planes and carriers are long gone.

The FedEx A300 N672FE shown in this video is still flying with them as we speak. Somehow one of the only aircraft in this video still flying along with the America West A319s which are still making money in the American livery and some of the Delta 757s. Even the Delta 777 is gone now.
@smakfu1375
@smakfu1375 3 ай бұрын
@@azul_rex After reading your comment, I went and checked my assumptions: I’m shocked that over 1/3rd of the total A300’s produced are still in service (197 according to Wikipedia). I had no idea that FedEx and UPS alone account for 122 of those aircraft. I’ve always found the A300 to be an interesting plane, because (like the A320 family) it was very forward looking, out of necessity. I suppose, despite the ancient engines, the twin config probably makes them highly practical as a freighter for logistics companies. Hard to believe that the A300 entered service 50 years and 5 days ago. Also hard to believe almost none of its contemporaries (DC-10, L1011) are still in service.

Wow!! Couldn't identify half of 'em!! Just MD-88s, MD-11s, 727s and I guess DC-10?? With the 4 big engines?? I think! I know I've seen DC-8s, but they have much smaller engines, like 707s!! 😊 I know this has to be old when you start seeing America West jets, damn, they're dinosaurs. 😮😅😅

Not much has changed in 24 years compared to other airlines. Still alot of those 757s flying through ATL.

I’d have to research but I’m willing to bet all of these are ILS approaches without an RNAV to be found. Gas was cheap, some 737s were still tiny and the world hadn’t changed yet.

Those were the best times of aviation , i can see only legendary planes , only USA made airplanes , with those elegant shapes very likeable to our eyes , that was the aviation that i felt in love with , very far from this new era airplanes , boring , silent , extremly computarized , and all of the with the same mass production cheap design !!
