Absolutely! I discovered my "proper" grandfather had been married and divorced TWICE in the 1920's, before marrying my grandmother. He had a daughter from his first marriage who was kept a secret to extended family. Knowing my gma knew about this child all along was another shock- maybe even the reason he didnt see his daughter. I wasn't sure whether to be appalled at how my beloved grandparents hid truth (gpa only gave money to the child's mother once a yr, never any more of a relationship) or happy that I found 2 new half first cousins!

That inheritance wasn't tiny. He could have made sure that his common-law wife was looked after AND made sure his son wasn't in dire need. It's a great pity that he lacked that spark of fatherly concern for his own child

No, Rupert. He just let himself fall under the stupidest saying “Men will be men” and one which women let happen. He was a cheater and left his son fatherless.

I don't think it was mid life crisis of Fred. He was lonely and far away from his family. Rose was there at the moment. She was an actress so I imagine she was attractive.
