I think in a way the role of Ron Weasley has really messed him up. Ron was such a wonderful character in the novels, but as the movies progressed Rupert really got the short end of the stick and became comedy relief. Emma and Daniel got all of these big roles offered to them, and Rupert got left behind. I also know he used to smoke and drank quite a bit of alcohol (not sure if he still does though.)
