The way she denies criticism is so pretentious. Then she says that we’re belittling the people who actually enjoy her work. Like if you self publish your work, you gotta expect criticism, not “backlash” like she called it, but criticism. Just so annoying that people think they’re so above it all

I think that's a good thing, though. Milk and Honey was the first poetry book I read a few years ago and now I read poetry all the time. It's like the gateway drug for poetry tbh. I think the fact that she has made poetry so mainstream is pretty great.

I think everyone need to understand that she is not on these interviews/talk shows because of the "quality" of her work.. Or that because she created something extraordinary, but simply because of the "quanity" of the books she sold. A hopping 3M. That simply means a lot of money. The world and specially the television and the media today cares only about one thing.. How popular one is. How big they are making. That's it. That makes one worthy to be on their show. No one actually studies the work done by that person and evaluates it's worth. Its like.. 20 million books sold? Let's have her on our show. But.. The poems aren't that good. Who cares. She has sold 20M. She speaks well.. Pretending to have deep thoughts.. and manages to pull a celebrity/star look. Good style.. Good make up.. Hair.. Perfect. That's enough for TRP. Invite her. But.. Audience may not like.. Don't you see channel.. X.. Channel y.. All have had her on their shows. We have got to show the world.. We support feminism too. And don't forget they biproduct.. We will end up wooing the entire South Asian population. Right Boss. We will call her.

@@neilstavern You know, when I made my comment 5 years ago, I meant it in terms of encouraging people to read and outgrow her... but with hindsight, you have a point. If Rupi Kaur just encourages people to write like Rupi Kaur and publish writing like Rupi Kaur, and readers just want more Rupi Kaur-esque entry-level writing - then no. Nope. 🤦♂️

People can say what they want but her writing is so raw and pure. It’s art and she’s written about so many tough situations like immigration, rape, relationships etc. Just because it’s not flipping Shakespeare people want to hate on her so much ...
@patrochilles62754 жыл бұрын
I dont hate her at all. I just think she should not call herself a poet or call her work poetry. She doesnt understand structure or composition and her "poems" r only surface level. That's not poetry.

@@patrochilles6275 But what is poetry? Anything can be called poetry if it touches on some truth. it doesn't have to sound beautiful. Here is poetry: Don't give up on your dreams, Don't let negativity get in your way. There! That's a poem.

It’s great that you like rupi. And as a beginner in poetry myself, it’s wonderful that somebody can enjoy poetry, even if i don’t particularly enjoy that artist myself. Though writing about tough situations doesn’t guarantee good writing. And saying she isn’t Shakespeare isn’t a solid response either. She doesn’t have to be Shakespeare; though her work needs to be more developed than it is now. It’s sort of like I wrote a song with one instrument and a total of three notes. Her writing is clever, but it doesn’t elicit anything deeper beyond what is explicitly stated on the page. What I’m saying is it’s basic.
