Depends, I've been living with it in one ear for the last 10 years, no hearing loss as such, doctor also says its fine or else I can do surgery later anytime if I want. Though you have to be careful of letting in water in the ear so no swimming and keep the ear canal clean so no earbuds or headphones, so now I use speakers and air condution earbuds.
