We were living in a rural part of Thailand in Phichit but eventually moved to Phitsanulok. We are on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by rice fields, but close to the city for shopping and food. Best of both worlds.

I spent 3 months living in a small village in Yangtalat. It nearly drove me crazy. The daily chores consisted of feeding the fish. Cutting grass for the Buffalo. Building a fence. Ran the water pipes to the house and installed a new kitchen. Other than my Thai girlfriend and another guy from Belgium, no one spoke english in the entire village. Noisey Motor bikes used to roar past all hours of the night doing their Ya Ba runs to the nearby villages, even in the torrential rain. The roosters start crowing at 3am. The Mozzies prefer farang blood over Thai. I got attacked by ants, i used to take a big stick with me on the motorbike as i had be defend myself from the Soi dogs attacking me. The only excitement i had was going to the local market on Friday evening to get supplies and going to the local rooster fights. I couldn't wait to get out of the place, I was loosing my sanity. I have since been back. But i have stayed no longer than a week. You can keep your rural Thailand in Isaan, you need to be a special person.

The Thai countryside is beautiful and I enjoy it in small doses but could never live out there. I get bored to tears after about a week. Hua Hin is more my speed. But if you want a quiet life the countryside is a good option if you know the language and/or have a Thai partner from the area.
@LifestyleNorthernThailand3 ай бұрын
Haha, I think Hua Hin would bore me! Each to their own. It's great to find a place where you are satisfied and enjoy living.

I did the Doi Inthanon bike race before but I sadly never thought to explore the area near the mountains. A hidden gem I think!. I recently bought some land in Samoeng and I'll be doing a house build once I get it planned out more. What did your builder charge per square meter and would they come to Samoeng do you think (I assume they are based in CM)? I like the finished concrete look too and you gave them a great review.
