This trilogy is tough to understand for anyone. You nearly need to watch it 3 times, learn script rewrites, watch director commentary, read theories, and spend 3 years in meditation to even get close to what the directors may (or may not) have been trying to do with this series. Then you can understand how 7/10 it is. Fantastic, changed my childhood, but holy cow is it convoluted.

Just for context, around 8:30, the two women in the apartment are Dozer's sister (Dozer was a crew member killed in the first movie when Cypher betrayed the whole ship to the machines), who is Link's wife and her friend/ his sister(?). It's been a while. Link's wife is upset because he joined Morpheous on the Nebadchadnezzer and fears that he will be killed too. The ship is deployed more than any other ship because Morpheous is ambitious.

I totally understand why they found it confusing, and only 'educated' people would understand it. I went with my mom (75) to watch this and asked her after what did you think about the movie and the storytelling? She said, I haven't a clue what that was about, but the action was absolutely amazing, I loved it. Regardless of age or culture, there's something about this movie that transcends aforementioned age or culture. That alone, tells you there's something special about it.

Yes and I think people will watch it even a 100 years from now and it will still amaze them. Because the Matrix trilogy is not about technology, it is about ideas, it is full of symbolism and there is a ton of things to think about after watching it. Truly a timeless masterpiece, like Stanislaw Lem's books or George Orwell's.

The main problem is that they didn't fully pick up on Morpheus' explanation in the first movie which makes it harder to understand the difference between the Matrix and the post apocalyptic real world. Matrix Reloaded switches between the worlds faster because it doesn't want to bore the audience with all the 'phone calls'. However, Matrix Revolution will make this distinction more clear by letting Neo travel to the machine world and having Zion fight the machines. That's why I'm sure they'll immediately get everything if they watch the trilogy again (which would be a fun experiment).

I thought Morpheus explained it fine in the first movie. He tells Neo that humans and Ai went to war, and that the machines won the war and turned a majority of humanity into batteries that generate energy while they are asleep inside of a computer simulation.

I would love to explain some of the concepts of the movie. The scene with the architect and the scene with the oracle for example. What is free will? Does it exist or are we all just following our programming according to a greater design? Is the life we are living happening now or is it a replay of events that has already happened? Mind boggling ideas and anxiety inducing to some. I think babu would agree that these thoughts are interesting but in the end they do nothing for us. We live and die as we do.

Yeah they still don't seem to have fully understood the concept of a simulation. They understand the Matrix is a crazy fake world but they're not quite sure where it starts and where it begins. If they see Resurrections they should be told it was made long after Resurrections and that the director was forced to make it by the studio, or the project would be given to someone else. The Matrix is a beautiful trilogy and that fourth part is tacked on as a money grab, so if they're being shown the 4th movie right after the 3rd they lose the appreciation of the trilogy itself.

"Who is he?" (looks upside-down) Yeah, that was a lot of people when this was in theaters. "Bane" (or rather Smith inhibiting the body) was only on screen for maybe 30 seconds total and wasn't all that memorable. Die hard fans who talk about this series do, but only for story sake. I always get a kick out of Link who jumps up in his seat with a "YES!" after Neo catches Morpheus and Key Maker just a split second before succumbing to the two truck explosion. Relatable feel good moment right there like beating a difficult level in a video game.

I forgot how awesome the start of this movie is. Most sequels reset the board and dial things down after the climax of the first movie. But in the Matrix sequel they pick up right where they left off in things they established at the end. Neo doesn't lose his powers, he doesn't lose Trinity, they're all part of an elite team fighting the dangerous programs in the Matrix. At no point does the Matrix trilogy repeat itself, at least until Matrix Resurrections which is more like a parody anyway.
